What an excellent thread! I barely remember this series as i must have been only 8 or 9 but i certainly remember enjoying it. As a child in Australia I watched 3 Canadian tv series - Degrassi, Beachcombers and You cant do that on television.
From what i do remember there was one skit with a family who was very poor and could only afford to eat kidney and lima beans. The mother one day said to the kids "guess what, we're not having kidney and lima beans for dinner tonight!' The kids were ecstatic untill the mother explained that they were so poor they could only have lima beans for dinner, not the kidney.
The mother later told the kids they were so poor they could only use 1 square of toilet paper at a time from now on! lololol
The big question for me is - why can't they make good childrens tv like this any more?!

I remember the episode about Jealousy, and there was the lockerroom sketch with Coach, Alasdair and some other forgotthename. Coach was raggin' on the kids about them being so jealous/in awe of how their opposing quarterback was so cool throwing the ball around and that their opposing defense gave bone-shattering tackles. Quick added note from Alasdair saying to Coach, "and the other coach actually knows what he's doing!" Awesome. Coach repeated Alasdair's words. "What!" Took a few seconds for Coach to sink it in, he chased Alasdair to the locker where he hid. Coach opened the locker to find it empty to his dumb bewilderment.
I love that funny line, Alasdair.

I remember this one moment on the show where a kid is sitting on the toilet in the bathroom, and his mom comes in and informs him that it's time to eat, but it's "dirty day" or something like that, and so to be sure NOT to wash his hands after he was finished. I guess that's one of the few specific moments I can remember from the show because it struck me as being so gross and bizarre.

On the 'Magic' show, Alasdair's done up as a wizard, trying to cast spells with a magic wand while Christine is trying to persuade him to go back to the mental hospital: "I don't WANT to go there, they don't LIKE me there"

the one scene to me that stands out but not funny more disgusting that i can remember is when a girl was at the dinner table picking her boogers and putting them on a plate next to her it was a huge mountain on the plate. quite repugnant but now that I look back the show kicks ass. too bad kids now a days are subjected to crap on TV.
anyone else remember this scene? or am I crazy?
oh yeah and the intro to the show was cool.

I remember when Adam Reed was on the show and he was on the toilet. he needs some toilet paper and the mom comes in and says they need to save money and he wastes too much of it on the toilet so they're budgeting.
she hands in a square of toilet paper. a square. he's like " I can't used a square I need more than this" and the mom goes you'll have to make due and try to conserver it for the next trip to the bathroom by using both sides.
god I used to have a crush on adam reed. I didn't know there was a reunion show. that's something not aired in the US or else Nickelodeon would have aired it/ they really do need create an old school channel for this and "Clarissa explains it all" and that show with the girl with the powers starring Larisa Oleynik. she could turn into silver liquid and she was trying to find out what the power plant was up to in her town and stuff.
the secret world of alex mack. that's what it was called.

Funniest sketch I remember was the one where the parents were encouraging their daughter to make this booger mountain at the dinner table. Hilarious.

Charliesolana, I can make a copy of it for you if you want.
One scene that I'll never forget took place on the Rumors & Gossip episode in the classroom with Les Lye playing Mr. Shidler (his funniest character IMO). This is approximately the dialogue:
                                  Mr. Shidler:
"Class, there is an ugly rumor going around that Iam a secret drinker. Oh yes. They say I takelittle sips behind people's backs. They are calling me an alcoholic [his voice cracks a little]. Well I'm going to dispel those rumors right NOW. Secret drinker [mutters to himself as he reaches into his desk drawer]. I'm going to drinkright in the open [pulls out a bottle]. Anyone care to join me?"
[The class goes running up to his desk with cups]
                                  Class:
                                  "Ooh me me me me"
[Mr. Shidler takes a big swig from the bottle]

So many of them! But one really stands out in my mind.
Mom: Now, Liz, stop complaining. It's not too much to ask to wear that dress once in a while, is it?
Liz: But MomI HATE this lousy yellow dress! Why do I have to wear it whenever we visit Grandma?
Mom: Because Grandma happens to like you in that dress. And she likes Alasdair in the pink one! (Pull back to show Alasdair in a frou-frou pink dressand not exactly seeming to mind it, if you get what I mean!) Now, I know she's a little strangebut she's very, very rich. So into the car, we're off to Grandma's!
Liz: It's not fair! His dress is PRETTIER than mine! (Alasdair sticks his tongue out at her as he flounces out the door behind Mom.)
The sudden left turn in the sketch and the way Alasdair minced and flouncedit was hilarious! That kid was really something else as a comic actor. (And my sister had a bit of a crush on him.)

I remeber when they were doing the whole show as if it was "a day at the Beach" They were playing scrabble and to prove Tsunami was a word, one of them had a dictionary and stated, "Tsunami, a big wave."
AT that point I guess Kevin grabs his board and runs off yelling about a big wave and the girl who always got slimed and dosed with water gets splashed .
Why do remember this? cause she was the chubby one with big boobs so she instantly nipped out and it will always be my fondest memory of that show.
                                      sigh
"Right then. All of you lucky enough to have two arms, hold tight." Marvin

The funniest scenes involved Les Lye, who played all the male characters (Barth, Dad, teacher, etc.)
In one skit, the family is in a hot air balloon and their sinking. They need more hot air in the balloon, so the son asks the dad to read his speech to the Senate. There was a running gag where the slovenly father worked as a Senator.
There was another where father and son are home and the fire alarm goes off.
Dad: What happened? Is there a fire?
Son: No, the cat peed on the rug.
Dad: Again? Is there anything that doesn't set off the fire alarm?
Son: It doesn't go off when there's a fire.
Dad: Here. Have some matches. Go start a fire so I can sleep.
Another skit had a kid washing the family's dishes. He was just about done, when the father comes in with a HUGE pile of dishes from his evening snack. I remember that because my dad always brought me an extra glass or dish when I was washing dishes.

It's not a skit but there's an episode that really sticks out in my mind. I recall an episode where you could "vote" by pressing a green or red square on the TV screen. I bet a lot of kids out there were fooled by it.
I'm not sure if it's in the same episode but still laugh when I think about the "smellivision" skit.
