Nah, I was just pointing out the difference between a successful country like the U.K. and a backwards one like Ireland.

No, I've never been there. I'm talking historically over the centuries. Ireland was always considered one of the poor men of Europe. Of course now, anywhere in Europe is superior to anywhere else.

Ireland is a far different place to what it was even 60 years ago. It's been a pretty modern country with a highly, highly literate population that, coupled with lots of corporate tax breaks so that high-tech and branch-plants would move there, made its economy roar for quite a long time.
Also you should realize that Ireland did quite well from the EU. -

I had heard that. They call it the Celtic Tiger in comparison to the successful Asian Tigers like Singapore and Taiwan.

Are you complete against the British Empire? You don't think it did any good by bringing democracy to countries like India?

It was a mixed bag but we certainly benefited from it. I think one of the more ignorant jibes thrown at the Empire was that we were just conquering primitive people but we were also fighting other European countries for these lands at the same time.
