Come on and let's cut to the chase: armpit hair is an attempt by American men to rob women of their humanitiy. Like one respondent saidarm pit hair is part of being a mammal. . . and only in the US does this issue every really come up. The reason is simple: American men want to women to be ONLY the virgin (to assure their salvation) or the whore (to meet their sexual needs). American men have no more room for fully realized women who are their equals. . .so let's don't do the dance about "grooming." Grooming has nothing to do with armpit hairit is outright sexism. If grooming where the issue, then why aren't men expected to shave their pits?

Pit hair flap is veiled U.S. sexism rearing its ugly head? Gimme a break! You obviously didn't grow up here. Why stop at pit hair? Why not let women be totally empowered and not pluck facial hair? I like the comparison original poster made to tooth plaque and B.O. - women's pit hair is in the same league. But hey, "dif'rent strokes for dif'frent folks, and so on and so on and scooby dooby dooby "

You could look at it this way: It fit her character. Science folk are notoriously bad groomers. They've got too much on their minds, they either forget to wash their hair/shave their armpits, or they just don't care.
Aside from that, Blair looked great. -

So, let me understand this: a woman doesn't shave her pits, and this 'annoys' you because it 'ruins' nude scenes. You regard this as a failing on her part, and you equate it with failure to chisel bacterial biofilm of one's teeth.
Christ on a

you have an odd attitude! Have you ever gotten close to a woman? You are aware that they wee and poo occasionally, I hope. And that they don't actually
have
to carry out all these activities to make 'emselves look like little virgin dolls to provide hyperstimuli for us, if they don't feel like it. This even applies to actresses, if the film is not for wanking over.
This presumably comes as a shock to you, but female underarm fur is really no less hygienic than a male's: as long as it's kept free of pathogens it's not intrinsically unsanitary at all. If anything, it's the fashion for female shaving that has the greatest hygiene risks - apart from nicks and cuts, trapped hairs and
rash barbae
can be potentially disfiguring.
The bottom line is:
you don't like it
. That's fine, but trying to push that dislike as though it were some universal truth rather than a personal preference just makes you look like a buttock. Some great, hairy, weightlifting dyke may decide to show you a thing about aesthetics by applying a lawnmower to your head - and none of us want that, now, do we?

What a sad shallow world we live in if the only thing the OP thinks worth mentioning about this wonderful film is the fact that an actress had armpit hair in a couple of scenes. It obviously didn't bother the director and why should it? Imagine your favourite actress, say it's Angelina Jolie for arguement's sake, if she was lying on your bed begging you to boff her brains out would you turn her down if she hadn't shaved her armpits that week?

Having arm pit hair is not dangerous to your health. Most people do it for cultural reasons and in many places women don't shave at all.

Just watched the movie last night for the first time and I noticed it too, in two different scenes. I didn't know if maybe the hair from her head got under her arm, or if it was shadow. Either way, I find Blair Brown quite unattractive.
