"How can they do a remake with Kirk Douglas - he's about 90!!"
Yes, if it was with Kirk, it would indeed be his "Final Countdown."
(Sorry, couldn't help it and I like Kirk in most of his movies. A pretty dependable actor like Burt Lancaster in the old days.) -

Ignorant troll.
LOL - old sea salts have been drinking rum for years
I AM an old NaCl, and I'm telling you, you are full of sh!t.
The US Navy has been dry (no Alcohol) for almost a hundred years now.
GENERAL ORDER NO. 99 [Prohibition in the Navy]NAVY DEPARTMENT,Washington, D.C., June 1, 1914CHANGE IN ARTICLE 827, NAVAL INSTRUCTIONS.On July 1, 1914, Article 827, Naval Instructions, will be annulled and in its stead the following will be substituted:"The use or introduction for drinking purposes of alcoholic liquors on board any naval vessel,or within any navy yard or station, is strictly prohibited, and commanding officers will be held directly responsible for the enforcement of this order."JOSEPHUS DANIELSSecretary of the Navy.
Even the British Royal Navy, famous for their daily rum rations, have stopped them since 1971.
Anyway Charley was in Navy SEALs, plus we're talking about him playing a character and not playing himself
It was humor you dumbass, I am not so ignorant as you to think he was playing himself, not a role. Also his role in Navy SEALS was a joke. Someone like that would never have made it into the Teams EVER.

Because you are always (intentionally) posting bullsh!t to annoy others. like posting obviously wrong information, intentional misspellings, and the like. Then feigning being the injured party when others call you on it. Like right now.
And never an admittance to your being wrong. just look at the above. nothing, not one word about Sheen his role in Navy Seals, or Alcohol in the Navy and how you are wrong on all of it. Just move on to poor little you getting attacked all the time.

Blah blah blah
I submit OPNAVINST 1600.16A
Section 9.g., also known as
BEER DAY!
Note the date of this document is 2012, but we had beer days back when I was in too. It's a pretty long-standing tradition. I don't know what ships you served on, but your CO's might have been "not alcohol friendly". Some of us older guys MIGHT have had a stash of rum on board to nip at from time to time. My CO knew who to come to
.
Dry my salt-encrusted ass.

Yes I am aware of "Beer Day".
It's the exception that proves the rule.
We are talking in general, not the one and only exception where an alcoholic beverage can be had (and under extremely controlled conditions)

how about Emilio Estevez as Lasky
Wouldn't be the first time Father and Son platyed the same character. But the last time was in the same film, not a remake.
Nightbreakers.
A film about the Atomic Soldiers.
The elder Sheen played the scientist during the present day at a Vegas Convention who is confronted about his past working at the Nevada Test Site.
His Son, Emilio Estevez plays the same character in his younger days working at the NTS, as most of the film is set as a flashback to those earlier times.

I would usually agree but I think this is a good candidate for a QUALITY remake.
The cinematography of the original I think was top notch. But imagine the badassness if they used a really cool modern soundtrack by Hans Zimmern or somethinglike TOP GUN
I love this movie, but some of the dialogue and acting and soundtrack are dated.
Would be kinda cool if a remake had F-22 Raptors vs Japanese Zeros. -

Remaking this movie would be a HORRIBLE idea, some things are just better left the way they are. Lets face it, Hollywood can't do anything right these day, especially with their efforts to remake (ruin) perfectly good films.
I know the special effects aren't the greatest, and yes there are errors in the film. However, this is a great movie that should be left alone. I can only imagine the type of ridiculous horsesh!t they would add to this film to sell tickets.
The reason I'm here today is because I read about the death of Charles Durning. RIP Mr Durning, you were a great actor and you will be missed.
