Wonderfully stated post Cairo5! Long, but well worth the read - unfortunately it's stuck in a thread with some flame wars going on so not many will stumble upon it.
I appreciate many old films for the opportunity to get a glimpse of ordinary people. Take for example, many of the silent era films - what type of clothes the people in the background wear, what type of jobs are portrayed on screen. Fascinating. -

Glad you enjoyed it. I didn't agree with the OP and it seemed he was convinced no one could give him a rational rebuttal. I guess in that way he inspired me to do my best.
One of the oldies from the silent era that really struck me with background detail was the Charlie Chaplin classic The Kid. The portrait of the world of the "lower class" was so real. Of course the padded muscles on the bullyI had to laugh.
It's easier to be an individual than a god.

Even with correct spelling, the style of the thread title automatically consigns it to troll status.
Any post thread that's titled "Worst (insert whatever here) Ever" is automatically a troll.

Seeing as the storm followed the Nimitz even when they tried to change direction, it was obviously nature's way of making sure they didn't get a chance to change history and cause a paradox. So it wasn't a random ending.

This movie, unlike the others you mentioned, contains real events that actually happened. Without the time traveling of course.
Why would you want them change what really happened to thousands of men and women who have been honored for their sacrifice to their country and a major world changing event?
I wonder how the family members of those sailors and civilians who died would have felt had they done that? -

Up until the last 15 minutes or so, I was really enjoying this film, thought it was a 5-star movie (Netflix scale) -
When the jet planes were finally given permission to engage the Japanese planes that had just destroyed the yacht, I had a big grin on my face - things were just about to get more exciting, because we had a second chance to remake history.
I'm not going to spoil this movie for those who haven't seen it yet (I just saw it for the first time yesterday, after all) but see the "1632" (Eric Flint) and "Axis of Time" (John Birmingham) book series for a better/more satisfying way to tell a story like this.
I ended up giving "Final Countdown" 2 stars instead of 5"
What are you like 12 years old? "EVAR"?????????? Really? Grown ups don't talk like that so you MUST be 12.
