Banjo The OP's statement in post #1 of this thread detailed a rather fond moment watching the scene with his child and discovering his child's "smile" during the events taking place. My "knee-jerk" reaction was if a film scene like that was a special moment, or even a family bonding type of thing, it stems from a pretty twisted mind to begin with. ANY way you cut it It rather sick. That's not "puritanical" (Which you have NO concept of) it's simply fact.
Kinda makes me think the infamouse rape-scene in the movie IRREVERSABLE, might make for a pretty nice holiday get together in that family.
Now please, while i do respect your opinions, until you can actually bring something valid to the table Avoid me.

Lol, I was six when my uncle took me to see it. All I knew about Flash Gordon up to that point was what my father told me about him growing up and watching the serials with Buster Crabbe and seeing a couple of Filmation animated episodes on television. Well when I saw that scene with Aura being whipped or any scene with her in it, I was like wow, there is something sexual going on here without me being able to articulate what sex was at that age. I watched the movies again on Showtime last night and couldn't help but remember the first time I saw it and had the exact same thoughts I had 30 years ago.funny how things over time doesn't always change perspective on certain memories, lol.

Every element of Auraher facial expressions, her scantily-clad or spandex sheathed body, her seductive and alluringly-accented voiceexuded sexuality to a high degree. Additionally, in every scene to the point where Aura became good and wholesome, she behaved in a sexually ravenous and predatory manner.
All that would be impossible to see, even for a six year old. -

I was a girl when this movie was released, but I could definitely see the sexual undertones during the whole sequence.
What really freaked me about that scene was not the whipping, but the fact that dear old Daddy was watching calmly & enjoying a snack at the same time!

It was implied that Daddy didn't have access to the video, only the audio, thanks to the manipulation of Klytus.
I myself was freaked out by the tears streaming down Aura's gorgeous face, her garment ripped down the spine, and her back so badly bloodied. -

Agreed - but wasn't she actually being whipped by General Kala, supervised by Klytus? He actually stops Kala from whipping her once I don't think he never takes a swing.

Yep, Micky. The action was strictly girl-on-girl. Which - to be honest - I prefer. Kala was pretty hot too!
For the record, though Aura is weeping copiously throughout her flogging, no blood is drawn. Her back is severely welted by Kala's whip-strokes, but the skin is never broken.
Actually, I don't think Ming gave a monkey's fart WHAT Klytus and Kala were doing to his daughter. The only reason he wasn't doing it himself was because he was too busy putting down the insurrection.
