True. This film is a gem!! From the score to Carmina Burana blasting this movie was everything I could have hoped for. Being a fan of The Legend of King Arthur, I literally drank in everything surrounding it. It wasn't until I was in college that I saw how many great actors were actually in this movie! I own this and could watch it over and over and never tire of it.

Even though when I first watched it, and had no idea what was going on, I loved it, the music, the visuals, the characters, it was so unusual. One of the first dvd's I bought. There are several scenes in this film I would call cinematic perfection.
Kinda late but I just found out there is a documentary about the making of it. Looking forward to watching that.
It's available on Amazon Prime at

Agreed.
I'm surprised that more versions of the legends of King Arthur have not been made or they have not done a remake of this one yet.
No need to when this is all ya need.
Patrick Stewart is among those lesser known actors at the time who went on to bigger things.

You don't just get Stewart, you get Helen Mirren, Liam Neeson, Ciaran Hinds, and Gabriel Byrne, too. Everyone was in this.
Ironically, the lead didn't have even close to the kind of career these minor players had in his own movie. -

It also has Clive Swift.
Not as well known but I had fun recognizing Arthur's foster father who played Richard, the husband to the insufferable Hyacinth in Keeping Up Appearances, one of my favorite sitcoms.
Ironically, the lead didn't have even close to the kind of career these minor players had in his own movie.
Yeah, I was thinking of that too.
Or I will think the opposite when I watch an unknown, playing against the lead, who has a lot of lines and is really good then is never seen or heard from again.

This is the type of movie that made me fall in love with the romanticism of medieval Europe with all its knights and battles. The whole movie has this fantastical nature to it. I put it up there with Legend in terms of how beautiful its all shot. The armor is shiny. The landscape's a lush green. The magic just permeates the story.
So many stories, so little time.
