She wasnt posh, she was just a well-enunciated Lancashire lass, so her accent was not too far from a Liverpudlian one but closer to Mancunian. Her psycho dad was Irish and her mum and sister, to my memory at least, had the same Northern accents.Anna Friel wasn't posh posh she just spoke well. And the chap who played Max was a northerner too so hardly proper posh, just well-spoken northern

It's interesting because Corrie is very different. There were a lot more southern accents in Brookside than I've ever heard in Weatherfield.
I've never been up North so I'm not sure if this is something realistic, like maybe Scousers are more embarrassed by their accent than Mancunians. -

The scouse accent is consistently voted the most popular accent in country so we are most definitely not embarrassed by it. My memory of brookie was that most were scouse. But we are a diverse city and welcome foreigners (Liverpool voted remain in Brexit), including southerners.
