I was stunned when I noticed how the dialogs in V is relevant and applicable to the current adminstration 25 years later

"V" is about fascism. The reason people see parallels between the present administration, and previous administrations, is because they've all had fascist tendencies.
I realized this yesterday while watching the miniseries all over again.
If you were alive, and old enough to watch the original run, then I bet you know that we had much more freedom in 1984 than we do now. -

Hmmmmm.President Bush never, to my knowledge, blasted a news organization the way Obama has blasted Fox. I find it quite close to fascism & socialism. The victory over the oppressive visitors was the whole point of the show. The fight to retain our freedom.

The fact that anyone can compare the Obama administration to Nazi Germany at the same time defending a propaganda network like FOX boggles my mind. I fear for this country. I've noticed that almost every board addressing movies on fascism has multiple threads on whether it was a parallel to Bush or Obama though, so I'm not surprized. I really wouldn't say we were better off in 1984 though, I think our country has been ripe for fascism for a long time.

i absolutely adore how terrified people are of fox..one news network
yet you have cnn, which is the most leftist leaning, liberal network out there and no one says a word..unless some of you think i'm wrong and ted turner is unbiased and conservative?
the new york times, newsweek, the washington post, left left left
but foxnewsterrrorrrrrr
i do love it so.

Yeah, no more Andy Griffith, Joe Bob Briggs hosting Monstervision, Beastmaster marathons, Jaws marathons, Rocky Marathons, The Atlanta Braves, The Goodwill games and WCW. Everything that was cool about TBS and TNT is gone! They have become the epitome of corporate poop stations!
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. -

Hmmmmm.President Bush never, to my knowledge, blasted a news organization the way Obama has blasted Fox.
Fox "News" openly helps organize fascist mobs against the Obama administration, and is temporarily denied the opportunity to interview an Obama official. When, OTOH, the New York Times spilled the beans on Bush's criminal wiretapping scheme, the administration not only "blasted" the Times (even though the paper had done Bush the inexcusable favor of sitting on the story for a year in order to ensure Bush's reelection)it threatened to actually prosecute the newspaper. Calls for such a move were quite loud in the pro-Bush press. The administration asserted, in writing, that it could suspend the 1st Amendment and other fundamental constitutional protections at will, and these weren't theoretical legal opinionsthey were adopted as official policy. For
years
, you couldn't say anything critical about the Bush administration without having 10,000 pro-Bush slugs descend upn you and accuse you of being pro-terrorist (I was on the sustained receiving end of more of that than I care to remember, and all I did was write some blog posts). The administrations' apologists were like the inbred pro-Visitor mobs of V, attacking and persecuting scientists because they'd been portrayed as enemies. For that matter, the Bush administration also waged its own war on science for the whole of its reign.
The Visitors kidnapped huge numbers of people, tortured some of them, put many of them in cold storage for dinner later. Bush, though he had no dinner plans for his victims, employed the same methods. The administration ignored the law and the constitution at will, asserting, among so many other things, the power to kidnap, torture, ship to foreign soil to be tortured (like a mother-ship), or "detain" anyone it arbitrarily designated an enemy. Bush claimed the power to prosecute those so designated in secret trials with secret evidence and predetermined outcomes, to kill them in secret, and to just leave them in a deep, dark hole forever, no access to courts, lawyers, anything.
When it comes to resources, the Visitors were after our water and our meat, while Bush was after the oil. Everything the Visitors told the humans about their plans and intentions was completely false, a tapestry of lies designed to herd public opinion behind them long enough to put their real plans into effectexactly what happened with Bush.
I could go on at some length, but I think the point is more than made, and as disappointing as Obama has been, no similar parallels with the Visitors and his administration even remotely exist. -

Now THAT is the sort of informed response that is rare on the internet. Even my responses, meant just to bring up opposing points of view for the same reason others posted their views in the first place, don't include that level of detail. But my goal is thinking of perspectives, regardless of what my true beliefs are.
And don't forget "free speech zones".
A lot of the Obama people certainly choose not to remember anything from last decade but who said Obama eliminated such zones; I don't keep up with politics to that level of detail -

You have a pretty short memory. Check the records. And you might want to do some digging on anything you hear from Fox. They can get it right, but they're just as bad as MSNBC, just the other direction. News media as entertainment.

A simple google of "FOX lies" can bring up a lot of results try it some time. FOX has a history of spin that's on par with anyone else in the "liberal media", even if FOX leans more "conservative". They all spin; any outlet that tries to overtly say they don't isn't going to be telling you the truth either, but they will hope you will blindly swallow it.
And what's your definition of "socialism", since that is a completely different style of government than "fascism" -

Yeah, Fox News is not a news organization, but MSNBC, NY Times etc are all news organizations, Melissa Harris Perry is not racist, CNN's Carol Costello is an unbiased 'journalist', blah blah blah.

I thought the Americans were more afraid of
Communism
than
fascism.
I realized that they are the same in terms of
Totalitarianism.
What is the difference between fascism, communism, & totalitarianism?

Communism destroys democracy. Democracy can also destroy Communism. -

This is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I love too how conservatives cannot admit that Bush was exactly how they explain Obama is. You can criticize Obama as much as you want, but at least show us you have a brain and start off by saying something like "I know Bush trampled over our civil rights and freedoms and outright lied to us for the past 8 years, but Obama" Do that and you'll at least give yourself some credibility. Otherwise you just come off as naive or maybe you just got back from Diana's conversion chamber.
