Why feel more sorrow for the humans that got hurt or killed than for the dog? To me it is worse what happened to Cujo. He was an innocent animal that was supposed to be taken care of and he wasn't. Innocence is innocence, whether it is an animal or a human.

I felt worst for Cujo in the book. The ending is heartbreaking.
spoilers for book ending ahead
King writes something along these lines:
"Cujo never wanted to hurt anyone, especially THE MAN or THE BOY. He would have died for them, if that had been required. It was only a disease called rabies"
I weep every time I read that. But I also weep for the much sadder ending King wrote for the book: Tad dies!
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush." -

On the one hand, it's an innocent dog that is a victim of a disease.
On the other hand, HELL NO. It may not have asked to get rabies, but the fact is he has it, he's killed people, and he's trying to kill me, AND my baby. I'd bash his ****in head in the first chance I got.
Poor Cujo? No, poor KID. Dude's probably traumatized for life (or if you read the book, apparently he just straight up dies, because King was in a VERY bad/dark place when he wrote the story). -
