      Umthe movie was in fact an adaptation of a play called Yentle, The Yeshiva Boy starring a very young Tova Feldshuh.

              It wasn't. Not with that story, when it was a play; and not with that score as a musical.

                You are exactly right.
                There was talk years ago of a musical version going to Broadway starring Debbie Gibson as Yentl. Thank goodness it did not happen. There was supposed to be a revival of "Funny Girl" starring the redhaired daughter from "Six Feet Under" which was also cancelled. Again, thank goodness. Where do people get these ideas? I would rather watch the films.

                  No, it wasn't. This was based on the original short story by Singer.
