This was the first episode of the NEW Twilight Zone. It HAD to use a similar formula to the original series, whereby there is usually a MORAL lesson and GOOD triumphs over evil. It wasn't meant to be a horror story where evil wins in the end.

Says who?
It wasn't meant to be a horror story where evil wins in the end.
"Bad" or "pessimistic" endings are not exclusive to horror, there were many such endings in the original TZ.

I actually didn't think Shatterday was that great. It was a bit abrupt for me and the acting wasn't really what I had hoped it to be. Season 1 of the 80's TZ had some of the best episodes though!
It starts well, A great idea, accidentally phoning your own number and YOU answer. but then it's downhill all the way. "Bad" Bruce just gives up the ghost and fades awayboring.
Agree! Great concept, poorly executed. The ending reveals to us what the duplicate actually was; a piece of the original that had taken on a new life but it was horrendous exposition that should have come out through story growth and not plain dialog. -

I realise your post is 4 years old but just in case you can buy The Twilight Zone in Australia now. I got all the DVD sets when it was on special at JB Hi Fi. Love it. Keep an eye out for it if you haven't already purchased it.

I wouldn't say it's the greatest Twilight Zone episode ever but it is a great episode with an awesome performance by Bruce Willis
