Ah, he sounded/looked soooo desperated. What an actor! Absolutely breathtaking!!!
Yeah I thought he did a great job. That was probably his strongest part in the movie, although I think that the scene just after is perhaps his weakest; 'Damn you. That sword has been in my family for five generations' seemed quite bland imo. -

"..for me, would have to be the moment between sunrise and sunset when Navarre and Isabeau are about to change and they see each other for a moment and try to touch before completing their change."
trinity i agreed with you. I think that is the most romantic love scen in any film.

I believe the church guards rushed to ring the bell in order to call for reinforcement. But they didn't know that the castle guard leader had already been coerced by Navarre into submission, so ringing the bell wouldn't help.
I like when Navarre shouted "STOP!" because he showed a very dominating power in that scene and a touching regret for ordering Imperius to end Isabeau's life.

-The sunrise/sunset scene, especially Navarre's "RAAAH!"
-Phillipe's line, "Not for the life of my mother! Even if I knew who she was."
-The aformentioned "Lent" exchange.
This is such an underrated film with so many good moments.

Phillipe: "You must save this hawk", he said, "for she is my life, my last and best reason for living". And then he said: "One day we will know such happiness as two people dream of, but never do."
Phillipe, ever the consummate liar, but you get the feeling that when he tells this to Isabeau, that some little part of him believes this exchange happened. I just love the look on his face as he is speaking these words to Isabeau. So tender and so giving, even though they are a lie. It gives us a peek into the soul of this basically very good character that is seeking the meaning of what is true in life. And in the end, he finds it, in the love of Isabeau and Navarre.
I also love this scene in the stable:
Isabeau: "How.is he?"
Phillipe: "Alive, like you. Full of hope, like you."
Isabeau: "He's taking us back to Aquila, isn't he?"
Phillipe: "Yes. He left you in my charge. 'Tell her we two speak as one, and she will follow your instructions as my own'".
Isabeau: "Really?"
Phillipe: "I."
Isabeau: "Don't swear. What do you recommend?"
Phillipe: "That you sit by a warm fire, that you drink a cup of sweet wine, and dance to bright music, cheerfully played."
Isabeau: "Dance?"
Phillipe: "Why not? Shall we practice?"
And then, very chivalrously, he offers her his hand, and they dance to music being played across the way from the stable at a wedding. I love this scene. Phillipe and Isabeau are truly happy together, if only for this short moment of bliss. -

I'm actually surprised nobody mentioned the final fight scene while they were still on the horses, I thought it was an amazing scene with the horses.

YES!!!!! McKern adds gravitas to this film, anchors it. He and Broderick are perfectly matched. Love love their last scene in the movie where Broderick tells Imperious he plans on making it into heaven even if he has to pick the lock! I split my sides laughing Long live Rumpole of the Bailey!!!

When Isabeau drops her jesses in the Bishop's lap. Her expression is so intent, and so full of condemnation and righteousness that he cannot even look her in the face. As the jesses land in his lap he flinches his face away. I love this scene, to me it is the real climax of the story.

(on the tower)
Soldier: Where is she? Where is the woman?
Phillipe: She flew away.
Soldier: Where is she? (raises sword)
Phillipe: In God's truth she flew away!
(Navare shoots the soldier with an arrow from the ground)
Phillipe: It always pays to tell the truth, Lord. Thank you. I see that now.

I agree about the scene with the hawk pippinmaniac! So many good scenes have been mentioned here, and I agree that all of them are excellent moments.
The scene as the hawk flys over the lake is absolutely breathtaking. I well up every time, and I couldn't begin to count how many times I've seen this movie. The music in that scene is the best in the whole movie as well.
Did you know wolves and hawks mate for life? The Bishop didn't even leave us that. Not even that. -

I love all of those scenes mentioned. I don't think that I have a favorite part, it's just my favorite movie. I do well up every time at the sunrise/sunset part where they almost touch in the ditch. One of my favorite lines by her is in my signature too.
Phillipe: Are you flesh, or are you spirit?
Isabeau: I am sorrow. -

I love all these scenes (and the 'I am Sorrow' line is wonderful.) I really love the opening credits too.
But I think I agree with the original poster. One of my favourites is the 'almost touching' scene. Although whenever I watch it, I then have to watch them get reunited at the end!
So I think the 'almost touching' and the 'reuniting' scenes, jointly. -

i just have to agree with you all .. the cast is great, the plot is fabulous coz it has everything a medival lovestory should, and the music is just enough to make you cry in itself .. i have watched this movie more than a hundred times since i first rented it back when i was a kiddo and i think i can pretty much recite it by heart by now .. as so many of you said, there are so many scenes and sayings in it, its hard to pick just one thats your favorite but if i had to choose it would be the sunrise scene, and the following scene where navarre sees the clawmarks on phillipes chest and imperius glares at him and says " that happened last night when he saved your life " .. that gives me chills ..
