She has short hair because it's symbolic of how she's a hawk by day. Hawks don't have flowing manes.

It's the one thing that puts me off this movie, terrible terrible score even for the time.

The score is exactly why I haven't rewatched this movie in a long time. That music just destroys it. And it's such a great movie. Why they ruined it with horrible music is beyond me. If this had a good score, the movie would be a nine or a ten.

Absolutely. This movie could have been great but I thought the soundtrack killed it. Rock music in a medieval movie? Distracting and stupid.

I agree. The synth sound dates the score severely. Maybe an option on a future DVD release to pick the original score or one with a classical orchestra?

All in favor of a new score for this movie. The music by itself isn't bad, or with a different movie, but when you pair it with this movie it makes absolutely no sense.

Agreed - almost all of the music is AWFUL. It completely takes you out of the moment.

I suggested a remake, and for the score I believe the correct choice would be:
                    Blackmore's Night.

No remake is necessary - the movie is literally perfect!

Blackmore's Night is just as modern as synth pop. The so-called medieval music that exists today is a contemporary invention. With the exception of religious hymns that have survived in form of early musical notation, nobody knows what actual medieval music sounded like.

Nonsense! the music's perfect just the way it is.
I wouldn't have it any other way!

Very much agreed - as fantasy films go it is one of the best (which is not saying much) but the awful 80s electropop score ruins it whenever there is an action scene.
If only they'd got the great Basil Poledouris (Conan and Robocop) instead of Alan Parsons.

The score is by Andrew Powell.
I'm also not sure what you mean by "as fantasy films go it is one of the best (which is not saying much)". Maybe fantasy films aren't your thing, but that doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of good ones. The Lord of the Rings trilogy are all good.

totally agree with the original poster. Saw this movie when I was a teen and saw it again on cable last night with my wife. Couldnt help thinking that the score absolutely sucks. Its not a score that fits in with the medieval time period..its more like a 70's porn film. It needs more Gregorian chant type stuff and less of the backyard - still practicing - techno crap./

The techno music is really only in a few places. There isn't that much of it. Also, the pieces themselves are good. If they rescored it, they could use the same pieces but with an orchestra.
