This was the ONLY scene in the movie I didn't like. As I have become a big fan of crocodiles lately, I have done some major research on them. One thing's for sure, Sue would've been dragged in straight away. As if she could stay on the surface as a 4 metre croc was pulling her in! Don't you think that's a littlefar fetched? lol
Overall, the movie was GREAT. -

Of course the other thing is that "crocs" aren't in fresh water
There is actually. The really big ones are called 'salties' or saltwater crocs but that can be misleading as they are just as happy in freshwater as freshwater crocs are. Not saying this movie is correct in every way, its a movie after all but nothing stops a saltie from living in freshwater. -

If the croc would have lunged at her head instead of pulling on the canteen, she would have been a goner, too. That scene was far-fetched and just set up so Dundee could leap through the air and kill the savage croc with only his knife.

This film was geared for Americans. At the time what other pieces of Australiana were we exposed to? None that I can think of. This movie was my first introduction to Australia. I, of course, bought every single thing in it hook, line, and sinker.
Now, more than 20 years later, having lived here for 5+ years, I can tell you that Sue Charlton would have hardly known what hit her! No way would she have managed to stay upright for a second.
Yes, the scene was a gimmick so that Mick could rescue her. At the time, it completed it's task..everyone bought it.
I love this movie, regardless of it's inaccuracies and contradictions. As I said it was my first glimpse at the Land Down Under, and I was enthralled with the idea of it from that moment on. -

I guess I was the only one focused on her sweet leotard and completely ingnored the accuracy of the "croc attack".
On a side note she must have been suffering from some serious "swamp ass" with that thong in the outback. -

I got the same impression. When the croc attacked the floating canteen she fell back, locked in her heels with her muscular legs spread and prevented the croc from dragging her in. No wonder she and Paul actually ended up married in real life.

I also was absorbed in the image of her in the thong. Her butt was something to behold. I could've cared less about the croc or the canteen.
