Relatively unblemished at 18. I had a late puberty so I still am pretty "boyish" in the pic but overall no real injuries to the face. I grew about 30 lbs/14 kg of muscle over the next year when I was in Okinawa.

Now compare to a couple of decades, a few ring fights, a bike accident, a few street altercations, an incident south of the border, and time spent as a bouncer and event security, and here is the result.

If you look close, you can see the left eye (reversed in the image) is deformed when the eye had to be stitched up after getting glass from a beer bottle in it. The facial deformity on the right side is when someone cracked a brick on me when I was 28. Otherwise the rest is mostly small scars and keloid tissue that built up under the spots where I took a few good shots. And of course the years punish everybody. -

The guy who fed me the brick ended up getting pummeled into bloody paste by a friend of mine. I got up and continued fighting after he hit me, but I don't remember doing that or anything else for about 20 seconds afterward. There were about 10 people involved in the whole thing. I just remember seeing what my pal did to him and then everyone who could still stand scattering before the cops showed up. Another friend of mine filled me in as best he could. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

A few. There was a legal case that I think was kind of interesting. The guy who cut my eye was going to sue me. I "over-retaliated" basically. When I get hurt I tend to go into a kind of trance, where instinct just takes over. I fractured his skull by driving it into the barricade by his hair one too many times. Not a massive break in the skull but a good three inch crack in the brain pan.
He dropped the lawsuit. It turns out that about four months later, he picked
another
fight, this time with a guy who put him in a wheelchair. The way my lawyer explained it, if he simultaneously sued both of us, it can be mentioned that he has other lawsuits going because the medical records have to be differentiated before the experts in the courtroom (i.e. what injury is sustained from what incident). It looks really bad to a jury when that happens. So he dropped the charges against me in order to keep details of the x-rays from his case against me out of the other one.
