Why are current versions edited?

I re-watched it on Amazon Prime recently and then checked my DVD. This has been edited from the theatrical version. Two things stood out as having been changed. 1: When the Rhino punches its horn through the train car, Indy used to say "holy sh!#" but now he says "holy smokes" in a terrible edited for television sort of way. 2: During the tank chase, when Henry is about to fall and Indy uses his whip to save him, Vogel used to have a knife and was stabbing Indy in his side. I looked at it in Slow-motion and the knife has been removed from his hand. This movie was PG-13 upon release. Why clean it up?

checked my DVD, it's an older release (not a recent re-release),
young Indy says "Holy sh.", he doesn't actually say beep
Also, the guy he's fighting on the tank doesn't have a knife at all through the fight, so you need to take a closer look. I tried to get a screenshot, but it's all pretty blurry when he's swinging his arm.

It has been changed from the "theatrical release". I can't be the only living person who saw this in the theater. It ran for over a year in theaters. I probably saw it 10 times. Indy said "$h!t", Vogel stabbed with a knife. Perhaps a VHS release would show it.
