Give it a try but don't go in expecting a fun romp like the Kevin Costner version which I personally find the definitive one.

I think you were a little too overwhelmed by Gladiator. Crow doesn't need to star in everything. Yes, Crow's version was great but so was Costner's.

If you're into the Robin Hood myth then you should definitely check out the 1980s british series ROBIN OF SHERWOOD. Michael Praed is my (and many other's) favorite Robin Hood ever.
and the idea of an Arab being one of the Merry Men also comes from that tv-series

Yep. Hasn't been one as good since, and may never be again. If you've not seen the 1939 'Adventures of Robin Hood', find it and watch it. Fantastic.
