      Thanks.
It's really a shame that Fred Gwynne's name has become synonymous with the "Herman Munster" character.
He was a great actor. And he really was so much more than just that one ("fluff") role.

          He's done quite a bit.
I also remember him in some Stephen King film.
          Here is his Wikipedia page:
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Gwynne
          .
          In any event,
          before
          The Munsters
, Gwynne was already "famous" in the TV sitcom
          Car 54, Where Are You?
          .

            That was
            Pet Sematary
. His performance was the best of any actor in the movie, I thought.

They've had a character based on his from pet semataray a few times on South Park.

I remember that; it was when the kids tried to convince everyone that Butters was dead. They tossed a dead pig off a tall building, and Butters' dad went and buried it, thinking it would come back to life. Then Butters came home and knocked on the door, and his parents refused to open it. Kind of like 'The Monkey's Paw.'

That episode and I remember a few others as well, the one where they went skiing, one where butters was walking down a road and came to a point where the road split in 2 different directions and asked what way lead to South Park.

I don't think it's a shame at all. Fred Gwynne's wonderful talent as an actor and his genuine, warm and kind persona are what made Herman Munster so lovable and what keeps that character so beloved even to this day.

I agree with what you say, definitely.
What I was saying is that it's a shame he is only known for that "fluff" role.
When as an actor he was so much more than simply that.
But, no one out there really knows it.
Everyone just thinks of him as Herman Munster, period. Nothing else.

Nobody could play a stone-cold, no-nonsense southern judge like Fred Gwynne.

I absolutely adore him. Hadn't wanted the Muensters as a kid (we were more of an Addam's Family type of family) so I never really saw him as Hermann
But, everything else he was in, just phenomenal. I adore him.

Hard to believe you never saw him as "Herman Munster".
                                      Fred Gwynne
                                      was
Herman Munster; the two are inseparable.
I often wonder if he loved that role or later regretted it.
