      theres a movie called "Prince of Darkness" by John Carpenter which shows the Devil as a big jar of liquid, and you getto see the hand of his 'father' Anti-God. Theres also 'Evilspeak', and 'Mirror, Mirror' which I thought were pretty good.

        Hi there, thanks for all your posts. I actually happened upon a book called The Satanic Screen by Nickolas Schreck (sp), that is all about the Devil and Satanism on screen and includes entries for Warlock (both the films), Evil Speak, Devil's Rain, Blood on Satan's Claws, etc. It is missing quite alot of other films, but the essentials are there.
        Hope this helps anyone else with a similar diabolical interest.

          Some other classics of the genre:
          Rosemary's Baby
          the impregnation scene with the Devil portrayed by Anton LaVey, founder and priest of The First Church of Satan;
          The Exorcist
          several appearances of a Satanic face (in The Version You've Never Seen);
          Bless the Child
          a well-done CGI effect in the climactic scene;
          End of Days
          as another poster mentioned, the Devil inhabits the body of Gabriel Byrne for most the film but at the end appears in his actual appearance via a spectacular CGI effect.

              GEORGE BURNS in "OH GOD, You Devil!"
              and I can't believe no one mentioned Dave Grohl in "Tenacious 😧 The Pick of Destiny"
              Viggo Mortensen has been one of the best, in my opinion. "The Prophecy" drips with bleakness and ominous presence, anyway, but he really steals the show w/ just a few lines. His absense made all the sequels a little disappointing.

                I have never seen Lost Souls but the Devil is not a character in Stigmata or Fallen, (spoiler) both of those movies feature possesion by other entities, {a dead priest and fallen angel Azazel}. And while Lucifer/Satan/the Devil are the most dicussed topic in the Ninth Gate, you aren't really introduced to him/her explicitly.
                I remember a movie about an insane asylum with Jeff Goldbloom as the Devil, it was a really great performance, but I don't remember what it was called.

                  It was called Mr. Frost, and is very hard to find. I saw it when was around 9 or 10 and haven't been able to track it down again. If memory serves me right, he implies he is Satan, but I don't think he was really supposed to be. Although, I was 9 or 10 a long time ago, and haven't had the chance for a reviewing.

                    I had forgotten about this film.

                            You've probably figured this out, by now, but the Goldblum movie was "Mr. Frost." Never saw it, but I remember reading that it was decent, way back in '91 or so.

                                  Christopher Walken plays the archangel Gabriel, which isn't quite the devil but almost should be.
                                  And in the movie The Car, the devil is shown as a car. Sort of like Christine, only more powerful. Seriously.

                                      Viggo Mortenson actually plays the devil in "The Prophecy" with Walken playing Gabriel. And Viggo plays the devil in a very creepy way.
                                      I agree, the best devil is Curry in Legend.
                                      And Mr. Frost was dang good as well. If you believe in the devil this is the kind of way I would figure it. Just like us, but evil to the core. No conscience at all. Totally a manipulator. And being deemed as insane. A basic pyschopath. However, an extremely charasmatic pyschopath.
                                      Al Pacino in "The Devil's Advocate." He was good.
                                      In the end though, for pure entertainment value, I loved curry's devil in legend.

                                          Crossroads, where Satan is portrayed by a black man.
                                          O Brother Where Art Thou, where the main villain is heavily implied to be Satan.
                                          The Passion of the Christ, where Satan is depicted by a woman.
                                          The Last Temptation of Christ, where Satan is disguised as a little girl.
