.where a girl stabs herself in the stomach, and then "wakes up" in some sort of supernatural/magical place where it turns out that by doing so she passed some sort of "test," or something? I caught this scene on TV in the mid 90's and have been trying to figure out what movie it was from for ages - I posted on the "need to know" board and someone suggested it may have been from this movie. Would love to know for sure.

That sounds like this film. The girl would be Paula Marshall. If you look at youtube, you should be able to determine if this is the film.
