    I just finished watching season's 6 Thanksgiving episode which is one of my favorite by the way.
    So if the pages were stuck together, how come she put cream and bananas on the top? She started from the trifle page, the next page was stuck with the Shepherd's pie so the third page would be the rest pie recipe or probably another one.
    Also something else I noticed. When Monica and Ross started telling each other secrets to their parents (totally my favorite scene) there is a line I never heard before. I downloaded all 10 seasons again and that episode included that extra line. Monica says "and dad, Chandler didn't melt your records. Ross did". Jack looks at Ross asking "is that true?" and then Monica says "and dad you know that mailman you got fired? Didn't steal your Playboys, Ross did".
    So that line with the records was totally new to me.

      The first time Monica turned the page, she accidentally turned two pages. But magazines do not stay open easily. So she lost her place and the second time that she found it she only turned one page.
      I'm not really convinced either, but strange things do happen. Rachel is a very inexperienced cook.

        The stuck pages (Chandler!!!) was a comedic device; I'm not gonna worry too much about it.
        As a Brit, I never understood why they called it an English Trifle. It's just a trifle don't Americans have trifle?
        Oh and mince pies do not contain any mince.

            In reality, friends writers are wrong. She was making a COTTAGE pie. In Friends world, either that book is incorrect or whoever wrote the book was clueless.
            A shepherds pie is made of lamb. Hence the word SHEPHERD

              Interestingany shepherd's pie I've ever had was made of beef. I know that it's supposed to be made with lamb but perhaps Americans have adopted their own beef version and just kept the name.

                Same for me on the "shepherd's pie" made with beef, although I didn't know it was supposed to be made with lamb, which does make much more sense. And my mom was 100% British! Although born in the States.
                I think you're right about Americans adopting the beef version and keeping the same name.

                    Yeah, lamb is pretty expensive so I'm guessing we 'mericans just subbed beef because it's cheaper. Plus beef is just yummmmm. We put beef in everything. Lol

                      Yes, alas, much more expensive than it used to be.
                      We raise a lot of cattle in the United States, and as a result, beef is relatively inexpensive. You don't have very many cattle ranches in the United Kingdom or France, but you do have sheep which supply wool as well as meat. My understanding is that, as a result, lamb is liable to be less expensive than beef in Europe.

                        Thanks for replies as has been a bit of a bug bear of mine being a keen cook.
                        Shepherds pie is lamb mince, cottage pie beef mince, add crusty topping and it becomes Cumberland pie. I also learned recently that one has runner beans and one is supposed to be made with mixed vegetables.
                        The ones I get confused with are the fish ones, there's fisherman's pie and admirals pie but I forget the difference. The type of fish used obviously.

                            An amuse-bouche is just a a small appetiser. I think you usually get them for free in a restaurant.

                                    We don't have any 'ranches' but we do have lots of farms wit both lambs and cows. Lamb and beef are about the same price. But I am of course referring to Britain and not Europe.

                                      Before I posted, I downloaded a document that should've given me that information, but I couldn't get the damn thing to open.
                                      Where I am in the United States, beef is distinctly less expensive than lamb. There are large displays of beef and one very small section with lamb in it in the supermarket that I go to. If I were to make a stew, it would be no contest. I would use beef.
                                      My wife remarked that in France, lamb appears on menus of low-priced restaurants in a way that it doesn't in the United States.
                                      P. S. Where I am, about half the time the lamb that is available is marked as imported from Australia.
