There are a bunch of cameos in the film.
George Lucas, Joe Dante, Al Green, John Singleton was a firefighter, even Uncle Dave was played by Wilbur from Mr. Ed! Many moore I can't think of off the top of my head, too.

Director John Landis is famous for casting other film directors in his films, such as An American Werewolf in London, Spies Like Us, Coming To America, Innocent Blood, and Oscar just to name a few.

It was Lucas. Landis used many directors in cameos in this film, as he does with others.

George Lucas needed the money, I don't think he made much from Indiana jones and Star wars trilogy and doing post production on Jurassic park

It's a cool cameo cause he looks fantastic. That's the way I wanna remember George.

One of the few times I have seen him in front of a camera.

Just watched this yesterday for the first time in over a decade and noticed several cameos. Spotted Bob Sherman and George Lucas, then checked the cast and noticed some other familiar names (Ray Harryhausen surprised me).
                    Fun stuff.

John Landis likes to put directors in his films for fun.
