well, Maine is a
particularly
white state and Morgan Freeman's character was white in the original novella. But, of course, they weren't aware of either of those things when they made their idiotic post lol

No. Harrison Ford actually turned the role down before Morgan Freeman was involved, so the producers weren't necessarily looking to hire a black actor. It just happened to be a role where the race of the character was not a major factor.
The same cannot be said with the casting of Idris Elba in another King adaptation,
The Dark Tower
, although the reasons why have to do with a character who wasn't featured in the movie. Thankfully it was a failure and we didn't have to see how they would have attempted to make Susannah/Detta make sense in the sequels.

I'm all for casting a different race when it doesn't matter, but yeah, I don't want a DT adaptation that doesn't have Detta calling Roland a "honk' muh fuh" lol.
What I hate about that movie is there likely won't be another attempt at an adaptation, and I really wanted to see a proper one.
I also wanna see Langoliers remake with better CGI. I have a soft spot for the 90's TV movie, but it is cheesy. -
