There was a thread on the
Goodfellas
board, asking which of these two movies was better. I can't really compare themthough it did strike me that
Goodfellas
has much quicker pacing, and is often very funny.
Casino
is more solemn and elegant in tone, but rewatching it today I was reminded that, especially in the second half, it does have some very funny moments, as well.- Lester rambling on about how "We'll dye your hair, get you plastic surgery" in the L.A. hotel, with Ginger listening seriously
- Sam being covered with a cloud of dust after Nicky tears out of their desert meeting
- Nicky blandly, almost optimistically, singsonging, "Alright, alrightyeah, okaybe careful" as Ginger is howling around in the parking lot outside his restaurant
- Ginger's whole meltdown after she runs her car into Sam's. ("I AM CALM!!!")
What are other funny bits that have stayed with you?

Those ones you mentioned especially Ginger's meltdown. Also:
Nicky threatening the banker, "If you don't have my money, I'll crack your f-cking head wide open in front of everyone in the bank"
Nicky angry at the blackjack table and throwing cards at the dealer and hitting Billy with the phone.
Nicky mocking Sam's robe and cigarette holder during their argument after the banker left.
Nicky asking that gambling junkie if he gambled his money away.
The head in the vise scene.
Lester telling Ginger "I'm sending this kid to Bolivia in a fking box!"
Nicky beating up some guy in an alley and then picks up a trash can and starts to crack the windshield on the car.
The hitmen casually shooting Andy Stone while on the ground in the parking lot with silencers.
Y'know, I could eat a peach for hours -

When Ginger steals the keys from the desk and keeps asking the cop if he's watching for Sam, and then breaths a heavy sigh of relief when she gets them; also how the camera freezes on them for a moment.

Remo telling Frankie to "tell them totake care of things a little better out there". LOL great leadership. Totally backed up Nicky's comment about how the bosses were so out of touch with reality and just wanted to collect their suitcases full of cash.

For me, the funniest scene is where Nikky is talking to Frankie with their usual discretion (hands over mouths as they walk and talk) and an extra walks right into the scene. Pesci goes, "Look at this guy." Scorcese decided to leave it in and am I glad he did. I look forward to it and howl every time.
The other funny scene is the one with Scorcese's mom, trying to calm her son down who is ranting and raving as she's counting money. She never fails to make me laugh. I miss her. -
