I can see where the dance moves may trick people into thinking it's like Jackson but the voice and the theme of the music is way closer to Prince.

I think Powerline seems more like a cross of Prince and Michael Jackson. And I don't wanna sound racist, but it almost seemed like Powerline was the only African-American character in the movie, unless I didn't catch any others.

I don't think he was more African-American than any other character.

Well his skin was darker and he was also voiced by an African-American singer.

I agree. Sometimes he sounds like Prince, and sometimes he sounds like Michael. Besides, I think "I2I" sounds more like something Prince would sing.

Actually he sounded like Tevin Campbell to me. No, really I never thought of comparing him to anyone. I just knew it was Tevin, because of his great voice so that was it. I guess the character is like both of them a little, and yeah Hammer too.

I don't think you could describe this film as racist. After all, the main characters are all dogs!
And yes, I thought of Michael Jackson when I first heard Powerline.

I actually think his songs sound more like Prince, in the car the guitar riffs sound like something Prince would play, but in the movie he doesn't play the guitar. I conclude he is a perfect mix of Michael and Prince.

He came off as more sexual than MJ, so in that way I think more like Prince. Then again his overall look and dance moves (the backward dancing was very moonwalk) seemed more MJ esque.
