i gave it a 10 also.
sure there are a lot of things to nit pick, but its sci-fi, its fantasy, its to escape reality for a couple of hours, not be scientifically accurate on every detail.
its a great story.

Loved it when it first came out, still love it today. It's unfortunate that ppl are such sheep they only read what was problematic technically, in 'secret behind the scenes interviews' rather than wait and view the film, and enjoy it.
When you get down to it, this was not a film about the post apocalyptic era, or about the environment, it was about friendship. Most of our personal favorite films are. -

I must have seen Waterworld four or five times over the years and still find it highly entertaining today. Don't know why it got so badly slammed by critics on its release but I'm glad I ignored them all.
Ok it may have a few flaws as others have mentioned but they aren't important enough to detract from what is essentially an adventure movie and a damned good one at that. It has a strong storyline, the lead characters are all believable, the chase scenes on the water are truly spectacular and all filmed for real without the usual in your face CGI that is par for the course in action movies these days.
I found watching the developing relationship between the mariner and the child extremely touching without being over sentimental, the swimming scene was beautifully done. At the end of the movie I really cared what happened to these people. A great film overall, I scored it 8/10.
