The man is a SOCIOPATH. He has no conscience, his victims are not people to him and there is nothing personal about why he does what he does. He does it because he gets a sick twisted joy from inflicting from pain on others. Julie and the hispanic woman were not people to him. Just like his many other past victims, they were just two more unsuspecting females he took advantage of because he's a sick sadistic low life who doesn't deserve to live. Why try to make sense of the actions of someone like that? It's not possible, I think this whole thread was started as a sick joke.

He is a sick man who likes to kill and rape, which is why he does it again even after getting away with it the first time. It had nothing to do with a speech impediment. I think you are crazy and too cowardly to reveal your real name. You probably need a guy like Doob to rape a member of your family and get off to see what it is like.

To stevenackerman69 and jenni doll 1, I am sorry if you think this is all stupid. I just thought it would be an interesting thing to discuss and point out, that's all. Well, I'd like to thank you two for proving me wrong. I cannot tell you how hurt I am right now after reading your comments. If I knew something like this was going to happen, I never would've done it. Once again, I'm sorry.

Jeprice08 u don't have to justify yourself to these porch monkeys, all good investigators look for ANY clue to a crime, NO HOLD BARS. Doob went to that house to kill julie plain and simple and had mom been there balls to the wall, he would have killed her too. Not even the cop nor a gun would have stopped since he CLEARY taunted both, only a few bullets in his lungs heart stopped him, see the scumb@g is in a bodybag, job well done. He was Sso sorry @ the end.

I'm not going to insult you, but it's silly to try to come up with reasoning and justifications for his crime. Like he told her at the end, it could have been anybody. It was just a case of convenience and access and how easy it would be to get away with it. Not being of something as simple as a stutter.
RIP 2009. Bad year for Celebrities. Now Haiti too -

I never noticed a speech problem with the daughterbut it is odd that Doob said"S-s-s-sorry". Why DID he stutter??? Does anyone know? I don't think the girl stuttered.it made NO sense to me.

I wonder if it's because when you are a kid and you get into an argument with another kids, you shake and go, I'm SOOOOO SCARED. I think he was mocking them or taunting them. Knowing that he bested them and got away with it. He knew that they knew he was guilty and he was harrassing them about the fact.
Kiefer Sutherland is a verstile actor that does a fine job of making you hate him. I was really wanting him dead at the end of the movie, which is a sign that he did a great job. -

In the end he explains it could of been anyone, it was not personal. I think he just picked her cause he was into her sexually, and had the chance. What he did in the court room was just adding salt and lemon juice to the open wound.

Its a thought, but i doubt it. As others said, I dont think her well off family would have shopped at his seedy grocery store. Second, he was first driven by rape, not murder. If he had a problem with her stutter, his first thoughts would not have been of a sexual nature. I think he was just a sick freak we saw her one day, and decided to rape her. Then he covers up the rape by killing her.

There, that's the usual "motivation" for 99% of serial killers. They won't know/care who the victim was, either. She was there, and that was enough. The serial killer in this movie is actually a very realistic character. -

It's an interesting theory but I agree with other posters that it's not why he killed her. I actually didn't notice the stutter until reading this thread and then re-watched the beginning to see what you were talking about. She does stutter but I'd seen the movie twice without noticing it. The first time you see her is when she's practicing French, so I always just assumed she was having some difficulty pronouncing it. The directors probably should have cut the French lesson out and just had them having a conversation if they wanted to drive the stutter point home.
What doesn't make sense to me is how he knew she stuttered. Once you realize she stutters, it's clear why he said 'sss sorry' the way he did. Also adds to the stepfather's reaction - he was not only gloating, he was mocking their daughter. But how did he know she stuttered? In the murder scene, he starts choking her as soon as she opens the door and doesn't give her time to do anything but scream.
I know it says they go to the same market, but when he's arrested, she doesn't recognize him. -
