Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Just Shoot Me!

    esshor — 9 years ago(April 21, 2016 08:23 AM)

She was a hugely annoying self righteous hypocritical character. Claimed to be interested in the soul of a person but constantly dated guys for superficial reasons. Claimed to want a relationship based on equality but bossed around Elliot whenever he wasn't doing what she wanted. Claimed to be an intellectual wanting to make it on her own merits but took every advantage of being the daughter of a wealthy man. And constantly complained about her father being terrible at raising her. There is so much worse. He loved her, wanted the best for her, and just wasnt there for her growing up. My father beat us and we always wished he wasn't around while we grew up

Doesn't look like anyone agrees with you. By the way, what's a ' wasmt '?

Not many users comment in the Just Shoot Me message board anyway. I don't need people to agree. The points valid and rampartly abundant in that show.
        She's shocking.
And a 'wasnt' was a simple typo you douche. A mistake that was remedied/edited/fixed before your reply. Guess you chose to comment on it anyway.
You mustn't have alot going for you

Doesn't look like you fixed it. By the way, you also forgot the apostrophe, ' douche '!

Wow. This is really why you joined IMDb? To troll for typos?
            Have fun buddy

No, most of the time I like to have intelligent interactions with other posters. But, occasionally I like to mess with idiot posters who start threads with moronic posts. By the way, I'm not your buddy. I wouldn't be the buddy of someone who has the taste that you have. I might let you wash my car, though.

Hey there is no reason for you to act so petty about a post that obviously does not resonate with you. To have intelligent interactions requires one to be intelligent as well, which you greatly lack in said department.

With the dreck you classify as good entertainment ( 8, 9 and 10 ratings ), you have no right to engage in a discussion with anything more than a turnip.

Yeah! And Frasier Crane, claiming to be such a professional psyciatrist, yet kept treating his family poorly and only thinking of his own base desires.
Or Tim Taylor from Home Improvement who is supposed to be a handyman, yet he's a total clutz!
Or Ray Romano, the show is "Everybody loves Raymond" yet his brother clearly
                    hates
                    him!!!
Man, alive, that really grinds my gears.

                      Nice Family Guy quote reference.
But those other sitcoms themes are backed by such characters flaws/contradictions/ironies.
Maya's wasn't. She legitimately thought she was better than she was, and everyone else esteemed that opinion, despite it's obvious defects

Let me be clear, I am not mocking your grammar or punctuation. But what does this mean?
But those other sitcoms themes are backed by such characters flaws/contradictions/ironies
It seems to me that 90% of sitcom jokes are based on that simple premise. A character is supposed to be one thing, but is really another. The mayor in Spin City is unable to manage even the simplest thing. The comedy enters with the character's flaws.
Maya's archetypal joke is sort of "I'm really ethical superior and not superficial but these red pumps are sooo cute!"
