Quite the opposite in fact, I think it is very underrated. It is not his best work but by far not his worst either. I'd like to know what kind of tv you watch?

Yes, just watched it and it didn't do much for me. The plot was interesting but I just didn't care about any of the characters. DeNiro was pretty good, or at least, I thought the scene where he showed his true colours when he shot Melanie was shocking, which made it good. SLJ was a bit of a cartoon character for me. I did hate him and I was glad when he was killed but it was too quick and easy for my liking. I'd have liked to see that evil git suffer a bit. I liked Max but the part was played in such a low key way, I half expected him to double cross Jackie in the end. And I can't buy Keaton as a tough guy, no matter what he is in.
That brings me to Pam Grier. I can't help but think that the only reason she was chosen for this film was because of her iconic past. I didn't mind her, but I never really liked her. Sure, SLJ's character deserved to be double crossed and killed, but was Melanie just collateral damage? Jackie might not have known SLJ would kill Melanie but she sure as hell knew how mistrustful he was of everyone, so she must have known it was likely.
When Jackie walks away at the end with the money, after causing the deaths (directly or indirectly) of three people, and putting the life of a decent man (Cherry) at risk, how is she any better, morally, than SLJ's character? Then, to top it all, she chose the money over love. I really struggled to find anything to redeem her character, or make me care whether she 'won' in the end.

              Absolutely Not!
I'll join the chorus of commentators who LOVE this movie. I just watched this again last night - it must be the fifth time I've seen it - and it's masterful. The casting was spot on, the pacing was excellent, the dialog was so natural and engaging I found myself rewinding it in multiple places just to hear the words repeated. And the music - Spectacular!
It's sad that so many people don't seem to want to appreciate all the subtleties of so many great movies.

I disagree. If this is a common piece that you see on TV any time, do you care with giving me so of those common any time examples, so I could watch them?

I enjoyed the film. I wouldn't say it's QT's best but still a good film that would be great except for the running time. 3hrs is a bit indulgent if you ask me. it' came across as QT'S tribute to Pam Grier

I hear a lot of people say it's QT's best. It's a great film but I do think it drags in some parts. The acting and direction is amazing as always in every Tarantino flick but as for execution and action, there really isn't much of it. I feel Tarantino's trademark dialogue is missing and the film could have easily been at least 2 hours instead of 2 and a half. Just how I've always felt. Solid movie and definitely his most mature.

This is Tarantino's best film, and if cartoons didn't make so much money at the box office, he would be encouraged to grow up and make more movies like Jackie Brown.

No. This is QT's best film. The writing, the directing, editing, everything is purposeful and intelligent and damn near perfect. Samuel L. Jackson has never been better, and Pam Grier's character, Jackie Brown, is one of the best film antiheroes of the past 50 years. Pam Grier should have won an Oscar, imho.
And, I've read the book, as well. Big Elmore Leonard fan. This film is better.

Yeah, it's overrated as i just finished re-watching it again just now and it's not as good for me nowadays as it used to be. it's got it's bits and pieces but overall it just don't hold my interest to a high enough level to warrant future re-watches and like i always say re-watch factor is what ultimately makes or breaks a movie in the long run.
                                      5-5.5/10 (average/thumbs down)
                                      QT's movies for me now
                                      1.Pulp Fiction (1994) - 10/10
                                      2.Reservoir Dogs (1992) - 9/10
                                      3.Kill Bill Vol 2 (2004) - 8/10
                                      4.Django Unchained (2012) - 7.5-8/10
                                      5.Jackie Brown (1997) - 5-5.5/10 (Thumbs Down)
                                      6.Kill Bill Vol1 (2003)
                                      7.Inglourious Basterds (2009) - 4/10 (below average)
                                      8.Death Proof (2007) - 3/10 MAX (failure and/or boring)
so in short only four of his movies are memorable now.
