He was really good and stole all the scenes he was in. Though I'm not sure which of the nominees I'd get rid of.

I thought Kevin Spacey deserved a Best Supporting Actor nod. I would get rid of Anthony Hopkins or Greg Kinnear.

I'm sure all of the central performances in L.A. Confidential were submitted for consideration to the Academy the acting was uniformly terrific in this film. James Cromwell included. But it was a hotly contested year across the board.

I thought Cromwell was all wrong for Dudley Smith too old, too scrawny. Liam Neeson would have been a much darker and more intimidating Smith.
