Yeah. The sympathy bias to women is painfully obvious. Just seems so degrading to both genders. Of course, it's about the money. It's always about the money. They know that given their timeslot, a majority of their TV audience is made up of bored housewives. So Maury and the producers pander to that.
The only reasons I watch -
    A) Morbid fascination, which I believe a lot of others would agree with
    B) My portable TV doesn't get cable. Got nothing better to do on break.
1- The audience is actually being coached on who to boo and who to cheer for. People have said so here, and on youtube.
2- Yeah, that is rather unfair. Especially when they always treat the woman as if she's the sweet, innocent girl-next-door who fell for a bad boy's lies of commitment and wanting a family.
3- I know, right? "Special Ops Expert?" He's a security guard with a hidden camera, a chemistry set, and a rejected b-movie actress. All on someone else's budget. And his smug look just bugs me.
4- Ever see the one where the guy follows them backstage, calmly says "hey," and Maury angrily snaps, "Don't rub it in!" before he says anything else? The Not-the-Father guy just says "No hard feelings" and leaves.
    5- Yup, it sucks.
6- I remember one woman making her second appearance and testing
    three
men at once. She compared her son to all three of them. "He has your eyes, his hair, that guy's nose. One of you has to be the daddy." Guess what?
"You are NOT the Father" times three.
I don't think that spoiler tag was really necessary, was it?
7- Dudes need to get a clue. You're not helping yourselves and making it easier for them to villify you if you're gonna act stupid. Shoulda paid more attention in high school, including lessons on safe sex.
    9- Another thread mentions this:
    http://www.imdb.com/board/10120986/board/nest/141934583
12- Ever see when it's a woman who's admitted to cheating and the husband comes out and moves the chair? Maury acts shocked. "You've been married for three years and you don't want to sit by her? Why not? Just because she cheated on you? Come on, that's harsh!" But when a woman doesn't want to sit by the man, OK, then. She's allowed to express her disgust with the man, or make some meaningless gesture of her independence. Whatever.

I like it. Alot of the people are stupid and reckless on it but at least in real life the good people will watch and know to stay far away from them. Plus Maury is the beep
Trapped inside life your BS overwhelms me. You f*c!ed up. Did it again. Tired of hearing your sorry

There are so many stupid things. I think I could compile a list longer than yours.
The people who go to the set's background to yell into the big screen TV as if it's a picture window and they're face-to-face with the person they're yelling at.
The black women (usually) who get up and do an obscene dance when the guy is named the father of their baby and/or scream the same sentence about seven times in a row: "WHAT NOW?! WHAT NOW?! WHAT NOW?! WHAT NOW?!."
The lie detector guy who's ready to defend the lie detector results at the least suggestion that they're wrong. To understand my position on this more, Goggle a free .PDF book you can download called "The Lie Behind the Lie Detector".
Maury's strange position on teenage sex. He claims to be against "kids having kids" but at other times he's expressed a teen's unwed pregnancy as "the happiest time in her life" until the boyfriend denied paternity. Promoting to teen girls in the viewing audience that an unwed pregnancy is something wonderful is not a wise idea.
The stupid guys who fall for the sexy decoy setup. Don't they ever watch the show before going on it? Or are they actors? Don't they mention their upcoming appearance on the show to their friends, and don't any of them say, "Hey, man, if they put you alone in the green room and some gorgeous babe walks in, they're trying to trap you! There are cameras on you!" etc. Or are all the guys put in the green room and only segments where the guy falls for the decoy included in the show?
Maury, again, who asks guys who have cheating girlfriends if they think they can forgive them, yet when it's the guy who has been cheating, Maury asks why the guy is still around in her life.
Maury, who asks wives of guys who are there in a paternity suit why they are there, since it's not their business, thereby getting the audience to cheer Maury and boo the angry wife. (Get some woman pregnant, then tell your wife to stay out of it because it's none of her business and see how what reaction you get. I'll bet it won't be, "Ok, dear. I don't want to interfere. Please tell me the outcome sometime" Or get pregnant by some guy in a one-night-stand when you and your husband have parted temporarily over a spat and see whether your husband respects your personal business so much he'll stay out of the matter, as Maury recommends.)
Oh, gosh, I could go on and on, but it's nearly 5 am here, and I'm too tired to go on.
"Truth is its own evidence." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I would imagine some trash would tell all his friends that he's going to be on Maury and has been warned about the green room. I also wouldn't be surprised if the guy thought he was in the clear because the room with the decoy isn't actually green. Let's be honest..the people that appear on the show aren't the smartest.

This whole thread is hilarious, but the part about this being none of someone's business is moot, because they all came on a nationally aired TV show!
And the wife of some guy who is being accused and denying paternity of his ex-girlfriend's baby, she acts so put upon and righteous, as if he is some saint, and usually it turns out he is the father. His wife is so proud and possessive of being married to this guy?
The wife is screaming and waving her arm and pointing and there are bleeps all over and she is shouting "he loves ME! He loves ME!" Yeah, really, we can see why!

This post is hilarious, but I disagree with you about number 2- if he didn't want a child use protection, regardless of it being only once, and she was sleeping with 20 different men (gross btw) if he is a father he should step up. If a guy does not want that to happen wear a rubber!
Sometimes I wish, instead of running after the women who run backstage, Maury would dance on stage with the men who are not the father.

I realize number 2 is controversial, but women are crazy enough to poke holes in their man's condoms before sex, and there is no way of disproving this with the myriad of situations on the show. So when a woman gets pregnant, she had better let the guy know asap and get his opinion on the matter (as well as prove that it is in fact his baby before the kid is 4). If he doesn't want to keep it or wants to put it up for adoption, then he shouldn't have to pay child support when she says "fvck you I'm keeping this baby" then struggles like hell raising it. She's the one who asked for the responsibility by not including him in the situation from the start. Some women on the show do though, and I'm not talking about them.

It annoys me every time a guy who is accused of being the father of some kid brings his mom and sister on the show, and the three of them are saying it's impossible the guy's the father. Are his mom and sister in bed with him every time he has sex??
The commercial pace of the show also sucks. In the first 30 minutes there are like 2 commercial breaks, and in the last 30 minutes there's like 4 or 5.
But to me the most annoying thing is when they show you a story at the beginning of the show and they don't say what the results are (paternity or lie detector). Then, at every commercial break they tell you that you'll find out what the results are 'later'. And then, at the end of the show they make a recap of what happened earlier and they tell you that you'll find out the results 'on a later episode we'll keep you posted.' UGH!
And also the fact that they often say that you'll see an update of a couple at the end of the show and they say stuff like 'you won't believe what happens!!' and finally what happens is just blah.

                      1. Some man on it who thought his child with autism wasn't his because he doesn't produce autistic babies.
                      2. These women running backstage because they are humiliated because they found out some guy isn't the father of their baby, they agreed to go on this show.

                        1. The ghetto @$$ grandmothers or mothers of the guests. We see where your children get their behavior from.
                        2. When the baby mama talks about how horrible the guy is in bed. (He ain't but THIS big Maury or Murray). UM YOU SLEPT WITH HIMprob more than once, so you MUST'VE liked it!!
                        3. HOW CAN YOU NOT REMEMBER WHO YOU SLEPT WITH and narrow down who the father of your baby is Within a 2 week time span, HOW MANY MEN DID YOU SLEEP WITH!?! That just seems to be idiotic/inexplicable.
                        4. Maury is an instigator. When he reads one result and the woman goes ballistic, she is already upset over the one "revelation". Maury CONTINUES to read the rest.
                        5. The guests who SMELL their mates underwear to look for evidence of sex/cheating. DISGUSTING!!
I am sure there are more

One thing that gets me is when a guy in a relationship thinks he is the father of his girlfriend/wife's baby and it turns out hes not Maury launches into his "I have a child at home that's not biologically mine, but it doesn't matter to me" speech. Whenever I hear it I want to yell at the tv theres a diference between adopting a baby you know is not biologically yours and raising a child for however long and thinking its yours when it isn't.

Cdon you read my mind That is the one thing I say too. A big difference. I wish someone would say to him one day.
To address some of the other people in this thread. I have been in the audience of some of these shows. I lived in NY they were free so you go. First off they tell the audience how and what to say. So the audience doesn't believe the women all of the time. On some shows they do not even let you sit with who you come with they match the audiences up. Look at the audiences and how they are seated. The camera goes to one section for certain reactions. You would think the guys have no support but when you see they were not lying they run to a certain section and looks like they had nothing but support.
The complaints about it being feminist, does anybody really believe this show is on The NOW list for shows to watch?
These shows are very manipulating and they are geared toward young girls who go to those schools they advertise during the show. People need to understand that before they look at the show they are not going to make a low down lying strumpet look bad. They are going to offer her sympathy even after making poor guy into a fool. Do you think they would have guests if they knew they were going to get a lashing from Maury and the audience? If anything it is anti feminist because it makes young girls into sexual objects at times and make women look like lying sluts. Who are so out of control they do not even use Birth Control while having sex with multiple partners. Who can think that this show is pro feminist?

Ever see the ones where the "lie detecter" proves that a man had a "secret love child with another woman" to his wife/gf?
Maury to wife/gf: "Do you think you can still be with this man?"
Wife/gf: "No! I can't be with him if he has a baby."
                              Maury: "OK, then."
                              Audience: cheers
Where's the encouragement there to love a step-child? How is this any worse? In fact, I'll dare to say that the woman has it better - she won't be forced/pressured into any obligation to raise support the child. At most, just let the kid visit every other weekend.
And yeah, anyone who thinks this is feminism is either stupid or deluded. It's just a man-bashing, woman-coddling theme in order to bring in ratings. They know women are the majority of their audience, like you said, so they want to appeal to them. "Counter-sexism" is not empowerment.

I understand what you are saying and I would encourage him to take care of that other child too and I would love to have contact with the baby. But not with him. the guy is a jerk, I say I"ll deal with your baby but not you. I had a boyfriend years ago whom I found was a deadbeat dad. I encouraged him to see his son and most of the time I had to force him. His ex hated me and she had no idea that if it wasn't for me his son would never see him. And if I had children I would make sure they were in contact with the secret sibling, but nothing says I have to deal with the guy.
Another point I want to make that I feel people over look. My definition of a bad mom and dad is clearly different then a lot of the people on that show. And I know a few people in life who just settled. They think bringing some pampers over and a booty call is being a good parent. But the problem arises because a lot of these kids really think the dad or mother are good parents and it is carried over to the next generation.
How many times have we heard some one declare on Maury "I take care of mine" and the women agrees? Meanwhile he has 4 other kids and works nowhere or barely. Take care means he comes over once a week , tells her he loves her have sex and leave a few bags of pampers.

                                  Yeah, so maybe I oversimplified.
I still have a point on the double standards, though. Right?

I loved this post, rookie21. It made me laugh, not because it's dumb/bad by any means, but because it's all true. Especially the bits about the college and Maury commercials, lol!

                                        Things I find stupid/annoying:

                                        1. When a female has tested five men to find out the father of her child and yet she still yelling and screaming I'm not a hoe. And when she actually find the father then she starts shaking her ass on the splits. WTF?!?
                                        2. When the females are having their men take a lie ditector test and after every question they tell the truth on they say "That don't mean nothing; there's more question". Like they want them to be cheating.
                                        3. The audience; I don't even want to type all the annoying things about them.
                                        4. Trisha G. and that one Snoopy looking dude.
5)When the females are like "yup I'm getting that child support". Give the man a chance to be in the childs life; you was boinking 10 dudes of course he wants a DNA test.
                                        5. Stupid guest all together. How can you find panties (that's not your size) and a used condom (yall don't use condoms) in your mans care and say "I don't know if he cheating".
                                        6. The fact that these people would go onto national TV and make themselves and their whole family look stupid and just eww.
                                        7. So pretty much the entire show annoys me, but I can't stop watching the DNA test episodes. lol
Alright, I guess this is the night bitches die.

Watching The Maury Show makes me feel better about myself.
