Just wondering how everyone would rate the Scream movies in your opinion?
Personally I disliked the 2nd one, I thought it was awful but loved all the others so here's my list-

    1. Scream
    2. Scream 4
    3. Scream 3
    4. Scream 2
      Do guys like "the thing"?
They like it better than no thing.

                  Scream 3

                  • my favorite movie of all-time. It's brilliant, besides a little rough patch around the 40 minute mark it's near perfect. These "flawed scenes" I speak of are not bad, they're solid scenes, they jut have hokiness around the edges. The worst scene is post explosion where they fall down the hill. If it wasn't for that scene, it'd be a perfect movie. The acting is incredible, especially from Neve Campbell who should've won an award for her acting. The script is so textured with allegory, symbolism, and beauty aided by remarkable character development. The plot is one of the most intricate plots for a horror film I've ever seen with it's three storylines. The last two scenes (the screening room and the epilogue) are the two best scenes in the series. Practically every scene Neve Campbell is in is worthy of award consideration. The whole film is just spellbinding. I think the reason it's hated so much is because people expected it to be a typical horror/slasher-style movie that the first two were, rather Scream 3 is an intricate thriller. It perfectly balances suspense, scares, comedy, drama, and action more than any other movie I've seen in a while.
                    12.5/10

                  Scream
-it's a great movie, one of the best of genre. The script is so inventive and original. Some scenes are intense such as the opening and the kitchen scene later on. The problems I have with this movie are that 1) it's a little dated 2) the editing is horrible. It's probably the scariest and bloodiest of the series. The movie is famous for the opening, and it doesn't disappoint, it's the best death scene in the series. I don't feel like Scream 1 is driven by the characters as much as 2 and especially 3 are. I think 1+2 are equal, 1's strengths are 2's weaknesses and vice versa.
                  10.5/10
                  3.
                  Scream 2

                  • an awesome ride as well. As Sidney matured, the series did little by little (which is probably why Scream 3 is the best), but it definitely takes a step out of the "high school" feel which is nice, but it's still in there at places. Courteney Cox is amazing here, her best performance as Gale. The script is easily the weakest of the series here, however, Wes's direction makes up for every fault the script may have. The two best scenes are Gale's chase scene in the school and the police car scene, both directional masterpieces. Like I said above, 1+2 are probably equal, each movie's strength is the other's weakness. But these "flaws" I'm speaking of are merely drops in the bucket, this series is the best series of all-time.
                    10.5/10

                  Scream 4

                  • I don't even really consider this to be apart of the series, it's still The Scream Trilogy to me. The problem here is they made it with a completely different style and tone then the trilogy. 1-3 were horror/ thrillers mixed with drama and action with a slice of comedy. Scream 4 was a dark comedy. When it's not compared to 1-3 it's a decent film, but it's still a typical horror movie you'd get today. Wes's direction is awful, the script is horrible (except for the revelation of the killer identitythat was brilliant), and the tech stuff is lower than the previous installments. The trio is the saving grace of the film though. Without Neve, David, and especially the energy from Courteney this would've been just another movie. It's more like an anniversary movie than a sequel, it hardly does anything original in the narrative, it's all borrowed from 1-3. The best scenes was the Stab-a-thon thanks to Courteney's energy and spunk, the killer reveal and the self mutilation scene. The were plenty horrid scenes, but the worst is the opening of the film (the one that takes place in Woodsboro). It's ironic because the opening is what made the original iconic. Regular movie scale:
                    7/10
                    Scream scale::
                    2.5/10

I can guarantee you that is NOT the reason, and neither is people being Kevin Williamson fanboys, as someone else around here likes to suggest. People just consider it to be a bad movie and very much unlike the first two. And let me tell you, I LOVE thrillers, more so than slashers. That's why I like the first two Scream movies so much, because they have more suspense than gore. Scream 3 is NOT a thriller in my opinion. Unless you consider Scooby Doo a thriller? It has way too little real suspense and feels too much like a spoof.
Ah well, my intention wasn't really to discuss my opinion of Scream 3, I just very much disagree with your reasoning why people hate this movie.
And please, don't be like a child and give movies MORE than 10 stars if you rate them on a scale of 10.

How any of these people could think that Scream 3 was better than part 1 is impossible for me to wrap my head around. I do think 3 is the worst of the 4 movies, but I can understand how some people think it is better than 2 or 4HOWEVER, there is no way it is better than the very first oneno way at all.
That's like saying Matrix Revolutions is better than The Matrix, Godfather III is better than Godfather, or Return of the Jedi is better than A New Hope!!!

I think Scream 3 is a pretty good movie and maybe even better than the first one. Scream is in no way a film as good as The Matrix or Godfather, so thinking that one of its sequels can be as good or better is in no way the same as saying that the awful Matrix sequels are better than the first one.

It's tough but I'd have to say:
                                  Scream 1
                                  Scream 3 & 4 tie
                                  Scream 2

                                    Scream

                                    • This is definitely the most ground-breaking in the franchise and I can watch it so many times.

                                    Scream 4

                                    • I thought it was the most entertaining
                                      Scream
                                      movie of the franchise.

                                    Scream 3

                                    • Highly under-rated. I still can't see why people hate this one, it's so much better than the 2nd one.

                                    Scream 2

                                    • No matter how many chances I give it, I can't stand this one. Well, some scenes I really like; but overall it just seems very vanilla compared to the rest.
EDIT: I just couldn't pull myself to put Scream 4 over the 1st so I made them a tie.

I haven't seen the last one yet, but thus far:
                                        Scream: 9.5/10
                                        Scream 3: 8.9/10
                                        Scream 2: 8/10

                                          My top 4 is:

                                          1. Scream 3 - criminally underrated & overlooked. Great death scenes and really unpredictable killer and his connection with Sidney
                                          2. Scream - the beginning of great franchise
                                          3. Scream 4
                                          4. Scream 2 - too much predictable
