It felt it was made that long ago. I also forgot it was made the same year as Gladiator since that trash got all the hype. After rewatching it recently I got the impression that it won a lot, I think I had remembered he had a Nom. For Oscar Lead, and lost, coming to find out it didnt win anything and was only nominated for two awards, and losing to both on Gladiator. Face Palming on the Lead, and htf it didnt even get nominated for Best Picture?

Gladiator was the type of epic the Academy loves, they gave out Oscars to other historical epics in the 90s like Braveheart, Titanic, English Patient etc. Cast Away was never a front runner for all the awards, it was smaller personal story and more a showcase for the lead actor’s performance.

Can you really call Gladiator historical?
Epic?
Nor is English Patient.
The Fact that you Put Gladiator in the same breathe as Braveheart
️.
After such historical give aways the Oscars changed it’s tune and started to give away awards to film just like cast away except cast away was too big for the Oscars to snub their noses at.
