For me it was Hans Zimmer's surprising and brilliant score. Who would have expected to hear that rousing, solemn choral music to this kind of a genre film? It instantly elevated the entire enterprise, adding class, expanded its vision and anchored the emotional core. It remains, to this day, one of the absolute best and the most original and ambitious film scores I'd ever witnessed.

The music in
Hannibal
is a major contributor to the movie's beauty. I think
Hannibal
atypical in how its music and cinematography work hand-in-hand to help achieve a classical work of art. Ridley Scott is an artist; he had a beautiful vision for Hannibal which he and his staff succeeded in putting on screen. -

And how brilliant wad this soundtrack really? From the very beginning, with 'Dear Clarice' and 'Avarice' we are treated to this modern masterpiece. And by the very end, with the soaring 'Virtue', 'Let My Home Be My Gallows', 'The Burning Heart' and 'To Every Captive Soul', it turns into the full symphonic movement. And, of course, the jewel of the entire soundtrack, 'Vide Cor Meum', which was smart of Hans to borrow for the film! -

The best parts were the views of Florence. I've visited that city, and it was great seeing it again in this movie, seeing all those beautiful buildings again.
All right, the fun is over when Lector leaves the city, and I had to ignore the gory deaths, but during the best parts, you really see the beauty of that city.
For another movie of similar quality, I'd recommend "
In Bruges (2008)
."
