Trigun, but bebop is a far sleeker shot like everyone seems to be in agreement about. I wonder how much bigger Bebop's budget was from Triguns though. There were a lot of Bebop episodes that I was really unimpressed by.

      i have watched both ,sooooooooooo
      Trigun!
it's more interesting story.the 3 final episodes are amazing.i have heard so much about cb and it's not that i don't like it,but some episodes were just fillers.it was fun and it had a cool style, but not very deep story.Trigun on the other hand starts kinda funny, almost childish, but at the end it has some deep philosophical issues.
As for Legato, maybe he is the most interesting character in both series,so you can't let him out.

For me Bebop definitely wins in the cathegories:
          style, story
I liked the industrial, fragmanted music in Trigun, I equally liked Yoko Kannos masterpieces in Bebop.
Spike vs Vash Dont know, maybe because I saw Bebop first, and loved it so much, i would stick to Spike, but Vash definitely has got a lot to offer.
Jet Black vs. Nicholas D. Wolfwood: tie! Much as I like Wolfwood, I stil have a soft spot for Jet
          Faye Valentine 🙂
Ed vs Milly: Ed, I couldnt stand Milly
          Vicious vs. Knives: Vicious
Awwww, actually, I dont know, I liked Trigun so much, but it seems to lose in most cathegories for me somehow. Maybe because I saw it second, but it seemed missing something for me as well. Maybe because of the ending as well bebops melancholic ending, the plot leading to such a sad, sad end, left me with a feeling of emptiness, that is still quite vivid, even though I saw the show 7 or so years ago.

The music pushes BeBop ahead in my book. Half of BeBop's greatness is the music, with a lesser soundtrack it'd only be a decent series. Both are at the top of my all time anime favorites list, but if I HAD to choose, like the above saids, BeBop because of the soundtrack.
It's probably the greatest soundtrack of anything ever.

I was first introduced to anime by a good friend of mine back in 2004. The first anime that he showed me was an episode of Bebop ( Ganymede Elegy). I did enjoy the episode. It wasn't until I saw Pierrot le Fou when I officially jumped on the Bebop bandwagon. Bebop is a fantastic show.
Trigun was the third series that I started to watch. Another amazing show. Vash is such a great character. Just like Spike. Although I tend to like Vash a little more.
To me it is like Apples, and Oranges. I love both.
Cowboy Bebop 10 out of 10
                  Trigun 10 out of 10
                  Have a nice Day 🙂

^ sum up my thoughts exactly. However in Bebop credit music is good for those that liked it, Trigun doesn't rely much on music, rather it focuses more on script and sound effects that would set the mood, atmosphere, personalities, storytelling ect Also for animation I would also give it a tie, true Bebop has some amazing backgrounds animation, however Trigun wins in character animations. To me the thing that give Trigun the edge is story, and to me story in the most important factor in any anime, to keep your interest glued to the screen, everything else will fall into place. Let take the anime 'When they cry' for example, personally I don't care about its music or animation which can be sometimes downright silly, but the story is epic, so epic in fact that It opened my eyes and I learned some valuable lessons in life that I would never have imagined coming from an anime!

Alright I'll give this a try
Music: Bebop, it had more songs, however I liked the songs in Trigun better.
Animation: Trigun for the characters, Bebop for the city backgrounds, I believe Vash trench coat alone was more difficult to animate than anything in Bebop.
Style: Trigun. Any of the characters from Trigun had more style and charisma than anyone from Bebop.
Writing: Trigun obviously, every episode was entertaining, whether it's a comedic episode with Vash as a goofball, or an action episode with Vash kicking ass, the writing stays interesting and consistent making you want to see more and more, rather than "I'm just going to skip this boring episode and get to the nitty-gritty" theme Cowboy Bebop has.
                              Story: Trigun. nuff said.
Spike Siegal vs Vash the Stampede: Vash the Stampede stomps Spike in every category, Vash IS Trigun, Spike is NOT Cowboy Bebop. There was one episode where Vash barely was shown and it was the only boring episode, Vash makes Trigun interesting. Can't say the same for Spike, there's plenty of episodes where Spike was barely shown, where both Jet and Faye steal the show, that's how lame Spike is. Spike is cocky, and sometimes annoying and unlikeable character, which is probably why
the creator has an easy time killing him off at the end
                              , while Vash
lives on to see another day
. Also in a duel there's no doubt that Vash would dominate, he would dodge all of Spikes bullets, and in one shot eliminate Spike's gun from his hand preaching his love and peace, after which he would probably treat Spike to a drink at a local bar, to wash away his humiliating defeat.
Jet Black vs. Nicholas D. Wolfwood: Wolfwood, anyone carrying a giant cross as a weapon is badass, not to mention Wolfwood is almost as awesome as Vash.
Faye Valentine vs. Meryl Stryfe: Faye, she's sexier and more dangerous than Meryl. She's also better with a gun, she's has somewhat of a mysterious past making her more interesting, and she's not as annoying as Meryl.
Ed vs. Milly Thompson: Milly Thompson, her simple minded attitude is somewhat cute, not to mention she carries around a huge Stun Gun. Ed is just a weird annoying little brat.
Vicious vs. Knives: Tie, both are lame in comparison to Legato.
                              Julia vs. Rem Saverem: Tie.
Trigun is better in my opinion, it has a better story and characters, and that's more important to me than music. If I had to choose between Trigun manga and Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, I'll choose Trigun manga anyday.

                                kill-the-boxtrolls — 14 years ago(September 14, 2011 07:19 PM)

I know this thread is kinda outdated, but I wanted to pump it up a bit? I'm pretty obsessed with Trigun as much as I am with that horror film, "The Others." Despite that I'm more or less addicted to Bebop more and wish it had more eps. Anyways, here it goes.
Music: Bebop (the music on Trigun was nice too but I like Bebop's music a lot better.)
Animation: Hmm pretty hard maybe Trigun? Because I thought some of the animation on Bebop was a tad lousy, but I could've said Bebop for its CGI-related animation.
                                Style: Bebop
Writing: Bebop (Definitely! Bebop has one of the best writing ever!)
                                Story: Bebop
Spike Spiegel vs. Vash the Stampede: Spike. If Vash hadn't been so sickening sweet, I would've found it difficult to decide, but I'd rather give the cup to Spike. Sorry, vash, I'm sure you'll be playing with the bad-ass ppl your owwn age if you would've had more hot-headed and bold moments.
Jet Black vs. Nicholas D. Wolfwood: Wolfwood (for sure! Sometimes Jet would get a little coy and sometimes even unlikable. The writers could've put a lot more characterization into Jet)
Faye Valentine vs. Meryl Styfer: Faye
                                Ed vs. Millie: Ed
                                Vicious vs. Knives: Knives
                                Rem Savern vs. Julia: Rem
So I guess Bebop beats both Trigun and "The Others" by miles

Ok, I adore both shows and just came off of a Trigun marathon, so let me give it a shot:
Music: Bebop (the music on Trigun was awesome but I like Bebop's music a lot better, AND there was more!)
Animation: I have to give this one to Bebop. Maybe it's because Trigun was based on manga, but they did silly things with the faces with some reactions that while was cute overall, I could have lived without.
Style: I'm going to call this a draw. They were both different, and the styles fit the shows. Plus, Trigun was based on a manga that had its own style. Bebop wasn't.
Writing: I have to call this a draw. Bebop got to the heart of the story earlier, but once Trigun got to the heart of its story, it didn't let up. Characters in both shows were very well drawn, written and performed.
Story: I have to call this one a draw as well. I loved both stories. I loved how both protagonists had similar issues - a woman from their past that they were devoted to, an enemy that needed to be defeated. I will say that we got more of a sense of Vash's devotion to Rem in Trigun than we got of Spike's devotion to Julia in Bebop.
Spike Spiegel vs. Vash the Stampede: Spike by a hair. He had an edge that Vash didn't have. Both were tragic characters with their goofy side, but Spike had that edge that made him so fascinating (not to mention the 'cool' factor :).
Jet Black vs. Nicholas D. Wolfwood: I can't compare the two so I can't give an opinion. Wolfwood was Spike's edge to Vash. I say if one were to combine Vash with Wolfwood you'd come close to Spike (but add tons of cool). Wolfwood loved Vash like Jet loves Spike, but beyond that If we're talking preference, I'll have to pass
Faye Valentine vs. Meryl Styfe: Meryl Stryfe by a dozen miles. Meryl was the queen of denial, but she didn't try to take advantage of people or lie or cheat to get ahead.
Ed vs. Millie: Millie. Millie had such clarity of vision and emotional strength as well as an endearing innocence. She could clearly see what Meryl couldn't and she wasn't afraid to speak her mind. As much as I love Ed, I adore Millie. She was the sharpest character in the show and didn't know it.
                                  Vicious vs. Knives: Knives
Rem Savern vs. Julia: Rem, even if only because we knew more about her.
Geeze, I think Trigun has the edge with me. As much as I adore Cowboy Bebop, there is just as much to love with Trigun, even if for different reasons. 🙂
                                  Spike! My precious

Haha, I read the thread title and thought someone was posting about the 'Tainted Donuts' AMV. Here it is if anyone hasn't seen it yet:

Trigun. I love Bebop, but Vash touched my heart.

I agree with your comparison, although for me Vash is definite win against Spike. But I guess, I just like idealists ;).
The animation of the film was great, so it's too bad we didn't have something similar in the tv series.

                                          Adding an extra category
Music: Bebop by FAR, not even close here.
Animation: Bebop. Trigun had good character designs, but other than that, it's aged pretty hard. Bebop still looks pretty slick.
                                          Style: Bebop.
                                          Writing: Bebop. Again, BY FAR.
Story: Tie. I genuinely loved both stories.
Spike Spiegel vs. Vash the Stampede: Spike. But i do love Vash.
Jet Black vs. Nicholas D. Wolfwood: Wolfwood.
Faye Valentine vs. Meryl Styfer: Faye
                                          Ed vs. Millie: eh.
Vicious vs. Legato: Legato. There is no reason for it to be Vicious vs Knives, Knives was in 2 episodes, Legato was the major villain of Trigun.
                                          Rem Savern vs. Julia: Julia.
Knocking on Heaven's Door vs Badlands Rumble: Knockin on Heaven's Door.
                                          Overall: Bebop wins.
