Am I the only one who thought it was little funny?

It was the mother who made it funny. And i think many of the scenes between Erika and Walter were supposed to be blackly humorous. And yeah i laughed when the mother got put in the room the second time and she said "this is unbelievable".

No one has mentioned the scene in the drive-in movie where she gets busted peeping at the couple in the car. This was the only really hilarious moment in the film, though there were a lot of other places where I found myself laughing rather nervously.

There are people that, when uncomfortable with something, star laughing. I am one of those people, no doubt - and yes I did laugh at some parts but mostly because of Huppert's genius performance and moments that were just too strange. Maybe many people that replied to this comment are of this kind.

I can see that some of this was humorous but I don't feel it because I found Erika's situation and the events that befall very distressing. Her mother, perfectly played by Anne Giradot, was funny at points because she was so ridiculous but ridiculous in a ghastly way that I might laugh at to protect myself from the horror of her rapacious possession of her daughter.
