the Met doesn't have a Deputy Chief Commissioner and Assistant Chief Commissioners, it has a Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioner. I think the Beeb's bleeped up, there.

Right, because the general public can't tell the difference between the people who hold these positions in real life and fictional ones on the telly?!

Back when the Met. had the different departments identified by letters, the A.C. of 'C' department (crime) would be referred to as "A.C.C.", just like the A.C. for 'B' department (traffic) was called A.C.B.
That ended in 1985, so it really wouldn't apply, I suppose.
