Psychologically, Trump needs the fake win. Let him have it. Then we avoid or postpone the tariff war that would truly hurt us all.
The funny thing is that other than the 'fentanyl czar' and a couple of hundred million, Canada had announced all the rest of the border stuff back in December…but hey whatever works. -

They all made concessions. Mexico and Canada agreed to send their troops to help secure the borders. Panama and Venezuela agreed to take back their illegal aliens.

Canada was already working on beefing up border security anyway even though the amount of fentanyl and illegal migrants coming through there is not even a microscopic drop of water in the ocean.
Turd (Pro gun and 2A ) Lump agreed to stop sending high powered guns to Mexico.
