Just An Overall Bad Movie

I absolutely love this movie. Sorry you didn't. I find it to be a kind of slow burn with great atmosphere and some very creepy moments.
Finally I just found that the movie was confusing. So he goes to do a job on an old Mental Facility and doesn't have the mental capacity to realize that his wife was put there. Also , what happened with his wife. He killed their child and she ended up being put in the Mental hospital?
No, Gordon's wife was never at the hospital. He killed both the wife and child. My guess about the pictures on the wall is that they were probably put there by Gordon in a dissociative state. Or they may not have actually even been there at all. Dude is crazy. His point of view is unreliable.
I'm not a big David Caruso fan but I think he actually pulls off the role very well. Plus - this scene makes me laugh every time. -

That scene is classic.
I have watched that you tube clip today at least 15 times.
It's just so ridiculous.
I read a breakdown of the movie today and I understand it better. The movie however doesn't do a great job of that. Now that I read that and understand the direction they were trying to go and understand it I still don't think it's a thriller by any means. -

I never understand why people write a one page post about a movie they didn't like, but every has a right to their opinion.
This is David Caruso's best work, even if that isn't saying much. I wouldn't write off the rest of the cast just because you don't like him. -

I completely agree. I am baffled by how much praise this movie is getting. It's got a 6+ rating and it's featured on listverse "Top 15 horror films of the 2000s). I think the voices on the tapes were great but other than that I really have nothing good to say about this sham of a movie.

When you look it as a ghost story, as most of the cheap scare loving people who rated it did, it really doesn't deserve more than a 3 (2 if there weren't for the the tapes).
But when you look it as a psychological thriller/horror movie, dealing with horrors of hidden mental illness, it is a masterpiece. -

I'm not looking at it as a good story. It's definitely a psychological "thriller/horror." I'm putting that into quotations to show my sarcasm because this, in my opinion, is not thrilling or horrific in any way. I respect your opinion, however calling this movie a masterpiece, is like calling an Adam Sandler movie Oscar worthy.

I did find it horrific, and it came after years of watching Japanese horrorknown to be way beyond cheap scare Hollywood. So, forgive me for saying, but I think we are all dying to hear your reccomendations of trully thrilling or horrific movies. I promise I won't trash any of the movies you give

Well, firstly I meant ghost not good. Secondly, I think your taking my comment a little too personally. We have different opinions. It's cool. I'm sorry if it seemed I was saying your opinion was wrong b/c it was different than mine. On the real though, saying this movie is a masterpiece is a little too much credit.

I didn't mean to sound offended, why would I be. I am not the director nor is this my favorite movie. Saying what you first said about the movie takes a lot of arguments to back it upSo putting that to the side, really honestly, without any agenda, I would like to hear movies that you think are superior in that psychological thriller/horror without supernatural elements area.
Mine is Shutter Island for example. -

These aren't in any particular order.
martyrs, shutter island, black swan, memento, the strangers
killer joe, audition, transsiberian, primal fear, frailty, identity, funny games
unbreakable, bug, seven, the machinist, requiem for a dream, mr brooks, donnie darko, 12 monkeys, primer, oldboy, the prestige, the fly, american psycho, cape fear, the manchurian candidate, silence of the lambs, throw momma from the train
rear window, strangers on a train, psycho, soylent green, the lawnmower man, sucker punch, inception, vanilla sky, scanners, fight club, straw dogs, and I could name a few more. -

You find these movies scary? Wow. It looks like it doesn't take much to scare you. -

I suspect all the muppets who think this movie is bad, just love cookie cutter rubbish like 'the conjuring' because they dont have the mental capacity to appreciate quality psychological horror, and require the direct stimulation of silly boo scares and demons running around etc.
Session 9 is a psychological masterpiece. You claim the cinematography is poor when that is one of the strengths that give it just a creepy authentic feel, rather than the typical slick hollywood movie studio look most movies present that most muppets like because it 'looks nice'. You just totally miss the point. Stick to Katie Perry. -
TheGreatFunk — 12 years ago(November 05, 2013 01:46 PM)
You suspect wrong. And, even if those muppets do like cookie cutter rubish it does't mean they don't have the mental capacity to understand or appreciate psychological horror, it might just mean they don't like that specific genre. I should have said editing and cinematography. After reading my past posts I realized I'd left that out. The editing was more my problem, though I still think the cinematography was poor. Have you seen Martha Marcy May Marlene? In my opinion they got it right. I don't miss the point. I see the point and I don't like it. Like I said many times before though, that is my opinion, what I personally think. You and vojkan087 don't agree and that's fine. I enjoy a good back and forth and learning about other peoples perspectives. But, don't think you're opinion is superior to mine or anyone else. They're opinions after all. There is no right or wrong. Just ignorant muppets who think there are.

Listen up now bud.. No need to start crying because somebody doesn't like the movie. Good god you sure are angry. I myself LOVED the conjuring.. Because it was a great movie that explained itself and while it did tell you enough about the story it didn't spoon feed you every little thing. But that's a totally different type of movie. That's a demon possession movie, this is as you've already stated.. A psychological horror film, so i don't know what that has to do with being a "muppet". So yes this film does leave many things to the viewer's interpretation, as most psychological horror films do. But it seems as if it lacks a strong story. So before you start getting mad and calling me a muppet hear me out. I did enjoy this movie. It has a good atmosphere. It has decent acting, dialogue and lighting (mainly all natural lighting was used) and doesn't spoon feed the story to you. BUT it also does not give you enough story! I felt with just a few sentences strategically placed here and there the story could have gotten the message across in a more clear way. But all in all I do agree that there are a select few who aren't exactly capable of fully understanding this movie, BUT that's no reason to start shooting off your mouth basically calling people idiots just because they didn't get the movie.

The movie seems like it was made on a forty dollar budget. It seemed very confused and a jumbled mess. I have it a 4 out of 10 for effort and concept and it probably could have been better with a bigger budget and better directing.
