So, being a groupie is a good thing?

lol @ "giving sex away"it's not as if the stranger is going to run away with it
And no, it's not the lowest way anyone can degrade themselves and there are many, many far worse ways.
And what's with all the hating - when men do it, they are Awesome, but when women do it, they are sluts ?!
Repeat after me: "SEX IS A PLEASURABLE ACTIVITY" and "KEEP YOUR LADLE OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S KITCHENS". -

Don't make the assumption that they are necessarily strangers - I've followed two bands in my time, and no, for the record I have NEVER been a groupie, but have known those who are. There's different levels of groupies - those who will go with anyone famous just to chalk it up as another on the list (probably like Suzette/Vinnie - ie; ref the 'cock' collection), then there are those who follow a single band and will sleep with any of them - not to mention their road crew, and then there's the ones who just want to sleep with one single band member or rock star through obsession. But also please remember there are a whole lot of 'fans' out there who follow bands who never follow this practice, they simply get a huge kick out of the whole fun thing of going to gigs, seeing them at recording studios, airports etc and hanging out with the band generally etc; but for the record they are not "groupies". A groupie is always someone who is playing the sex angle! And you can pretty much bet once they've had what they want, the band member/rock star, whatever, concerned WON'T have anything to do with them again. And also for the record, I have witnessed some of them getting paid off !!!!!!

"Don't judge people, just because they aren't like you!"
Well yes, but I think that's what the original poster was complaining about, in the movie there's a bang-you-over-the-head-strong message against conservatism and for 'just having fun.' If that's not a philosophy you agree with it could feel like the film makers are judging you.
And let's be honest, it's a fairly silly philosophy. The OP was, I reckon, justified in responding somewhat aggressively. -

Yup, that's pretty much the "moral" of this moral-less story, or rather, lack of story. Hooray for Hollywood!
You forgot the other moral, "Do it true!"
Whatever that's supposed to mean.
Geez, I can't believe Hollywood had the nerve to finally make a movie that stated outright what they've been hinted at for the last 40 years. Growing up, becoming responsible and doing a job that actually benefits the community makes you a loser, and you can only be a decent human being if you devote your life to instant gratification, living in the light of other people's accomplishments and living from day to day in an uncertain haze of sex and booze.
Bless you good sirs for making this movie. Hopefully a whole slew of impressionable young girls see this movie, throw out their text books and head straight to the nearest rock concert to teach them the truly important life lessons.
I would say a movie needs to be made to show the antithesis of this film's view of groupies, but it's already been been made. It's called
Almost Famous

I didn't get that impression at all. Suzette was a mess, and at first Vinny seemed like a Stepford Wife. When the drastically different roads they took finally intersected again, it showed that Suzette needed to get her s**t together, and it was actually good for Vinny
and
her family if she did a few things that made her happy instead of ignoring her desires completely to please them. Suzette
seemed
to have nothing, Vinny
seemed
to have everything, but neither really did, and they learned that from each other. It didn't make Vinny any less of a good wife and mother, and it didn't make Suzette any less of a free spirit. Those are the conclusions I drew, but to each his/her own.
The "do it true" meant that you need to be true to yourself and not completely abandon the things that make you happy just because others expect you to follow the dreams they have for you instead of the ones you have for yourself. It doesn't mean that you have to be selfish and have a "screw you" attitude, but if you're not happy with your life, what's the point? You can be happy
and
responsible. -

I totally agree with you!

just so you all know. some groupies don't go to rock shows just to beep rock stars. some girls just love live shows. and love music. it's not always about getting "close" to a rock star.
back in the day, groupies were named groupies, for the simple fact that they hung out with rock groups. back then it was all about being open minded and it was the sexual revolution, so now when girls do the SAME THING it's considered wrong. Yes times have changed and it's not as safe anymore to be like the girls in the 60's and 70's.
But to just put it out there, you can be a groupie and not beep anyone. And just be friends and chill with the band. -

everyone is being so judgemental. as long as an individual respects their own decisions and is comfortable with them, then who is anyone to say that their choices are wrong? that works both ways in the case of both lavinia and suzette.

I really doubt if groupies do it for fun. Probably makes them feel better about themselves to be able to think they were 'the one' picked for a roll in the kip with a 'star,' except ones such as the gal who was on VH-1 letting some 'rock god' throw bologna on her butt for recreation.

I wouldn't be a groupie but that doesn't mean that nobody should.. I don't give a rat's a$$ what people do with their lifes, they're choice..
Oh and this movie was awesome, whoever wants the 2 hours back, need to get them back by not wasting time watching dumb movies like Epic Movie or those movies for morons.
