Aye. I loved the way they seemed to gradually make us- as viewers- despise Vic (and, bizarrely, have sympathy for Shane)

I second Spartacus. The show as a whole isn't close to one of my favourite shows (its crazy consistent after the first few episodes though, and as far as entertainment goes its high octane, just not a lot of substance). The ending however is definitely an unexpected masterclass in how to wrap up a show. While I wouldn't give out too many accolades to the overall show, the finale is amongst the elite. The only shows that I think are better are Shield (the absolute pinnacle of finales), Six Feet Under (the best last 15 minutes ever) and Hannibal (of course thats if it is the ending to this magnificent show).

If you wanna give anime another try and this one doesn't have the quirky humor you hate. "Gungrave" The ending to that left me speechless and emotional as hell. Flawless ending imo.
The other show that had a really amazing ending that I finished recently was Boardwalk Empire.
The Shield does have quite a powerful ending though I agree. -

I know these two shows are in a different genre, but Farscape and Fringe had some pretty good endings..all though I should preface this by saying they aremt as good as the shield finale though
but then again, what is?

Oddly enough, I've literally just seen episode 1 of Farscape.

I was underwhelmed by Fringe's end. It was OK, I thought, but nothing special.
The Shield still has the strongest end out of anything I've seen, IMO. I love it.

I know there are still two episodes left of the show, but Justified is making a bloody good attempt to usurp The Shield for best final season. The last two or three episodes have particularly been spectacular!

And to think e-online has The Shield finale classified as a bad finale!! Ridiculous!!

It is the best ending I have ever seen. It was so true to who Vic is and how the strike team paid the ultimate price.
I think close second is the finale for The Wire.
Bringing up the rest are;
Breaking Bad
Justified

I can only join the choir here and I am no biiiig fan of the Shield. It's 7/10 show tops in my book but it might have the strongest finale ever, last 3-4 episodes or so.
The problem with the Shield is all the unneccessary sideplots that make it too much of a generic gritty police show.
The finale in BB is good enough compared to the ovarall quality of the show. Justified had a pretty good ending too and particularly an exceptionally strong final season.

Dexter's ending SUCKED. 3/10
House's ending was okay, imo. 7/10
SFU's ending was very powerful and endlessly rewatchable. 9/10
The Shield's final 10 minutes, while low key, was still mind-blowing. A masterpiece of restraint. 9.5/10 -

Six Feet Under
LOST
Sons of Anarchy
Justified
Banshee
Fringe (Not many people that watch these type of shows watch a lot of science fiction/drama shows, so you probably wouldn't get past the first few episodes)
