I saw this movie last night and was pleasantly surprised.
I thought Paul Newman would have been a great choice for Morgan Freeman's part. Not that Morgan Freeman wasn't good. He was fine- he's Morgan Freeman and I think he's a terrific actor. I just have been waiting a long time to see Paul Newman and Robert Redford reunited, and this would have been a great opportunity. I would have loved to hear more adlib in the "are you guys gay?" scene- those two could have gone back and forth with "nice hands" comments at least a few times. The "40 years of working together" line would have had a double meaning, too.
    Does anyone agree or disagree?

Instead of Redford? I hadn't thought of that. Before I had just thought of them doing a movie together again. That's interesting I think it would have been about the same.

I'm glad I browsed through all the titles on this board before opening a similar one as so often happens here - I had the same thoughts. It was on one of the featerettes that one of them confirmed the general wish to see Paul Newman and Robert Redford teaming up again like they did in "The Sting" and "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid". This movie "An Unfinished Life" would have been a perfect vehicle to do their grouchy and tired interactions that worked so well in those wo other movies.
It is just a pity we'll never see the two again ever on screen.

Someone else here Fisant911 quoted Roger Ebert here:
"() It will say that Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman are trying to be Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman. ()" I hadn't thought of that (Unforgiven, Milion Dollar Baby).

Yeah the Newman/Redford dynamic would have been great, but Freeman was as solid as ever.

I had the same thought, while I was wacthing this last night, it would have been nice to have seen Newman and Redford together in this. But Morgan Freeman was excellent.
