I am a card carrying Democrat and of course like Bill said, I like most people in the country are for many liberal positions. But you lose me and most other people with this far left extremist bullsh!t all the time. Enough with being offended by everything and trying to shame everyone and call everyone a racist, sexist, etc. That is why you are losing and have lost many people.
Bill does a great job explaining this and I hope everyone watches his last part after New Rules.

He is absolutely right and it's exactly why they lost the election. They nominated Hillary because they were scared of being called misogynists if they picked Bernie. They are the ultimate pussies and it is going to be the death of them.

I think they alienated voters for exactly the same reasons you are saying and beyond. They also alienate voters when they make a big deal out of who celebrities are supporting. You think Miley Cyrus is going to change a single Trump supporters mind. When Bill says, "Oh man Trump could only get like Toby Keith and 3 Doors Down" do you think the average Trump supporter is questioning their vote? Do you think the republican who couldnt pull the lever for someone as vulgar as Trump is saying, "Man, he's rightI sure woulda liked to see some A-listers up there, that would have changed my mind." No they are seeing Madonna saying she dreams of blowing up the white house or Merryl Streeps incoherent rant and saying, "these people suck and im nothing like them." Or when Hillary was going out of her way to see Jay Z and Beyonce, but during her campaign would hibernate for 3 days at a time away from regular people? Democrats have become the party of the elite. No longer are they the all inclusive "regular joe" partywith Republicans having to do their best to pick off some middle class votesnow theyre the party of the elitewhether its elite by wealth or elitist acting through political correctnessthats the lib party.
They will hold on to the popular vote to give them some confidence, but we all know that in the states that matter, a non politician, with 0 experience, demonized by everyone, who was caught on tape saying career ending thingsjust beat their "Historical candidate." Hillary had faults for sure, but Trump was the least appealing person to ever become president. If they keep this act uptheyve guaranteed another win for silent majority who are sick of the Democrats telling them theyre awful people.

            THANK GOD!
I would become a liberal except they just take things too far to the left. It got so bad that if you say you're not in the mood for *Chinese food you're a racist. How STUPID is that!

            • I happen to love Chinese food.

              DaRealestBlack,
              Also well said.
Like I said, I am a registered Democrat and have voted mostly for Democrats my entire life. I am from the Rust Belt and the Democratic Party used to represent the working people from that area. I really feel like it doesn't anymore and that the party has left me. From everything I see and hear the Democratic Party now only represents minorities, special interests groups, and elitists. And they are openly hostile to everyone else. Especially those who disagree with them and they lash out at those people and throw labels at them like racist, sexist, etc. And like Bill said, they find everything offensive. The Samantha Bee episode from this past summer really illustrated who this party is now. Some guy going on about his Master's degree in comparative Franco-Chinese literature, another guy going on about his expensive clothes, and an elected representative rolling her eyes and dismissing white constituents and their issues. People are tired of this and this is how they (The Democrats) got Trump elected.
I really think many Democrats need to take a time out, step back, and take a look at themselves outside of their bubble. Because they are pretty hate filled ugly party at this point. Many have moved so far left they have more in common with a far fascist right, which is ironic because that is another term they like to freely throw around now.
I hope they figure this out soon because the way they are going they will get Trump reelected.

As a coastal liberal and former resident of Canada, I read boards like this trying to get schooled about what happened in this election, and I agree that liberals don't always understand the mindset of whites who feel the Democrats are more interested in representing various minority interest groups, however just their grievances, than them. We are listening now.
I just want to say that no one should reject experts in various fieldsscience, history, culture, etcbecause they are from prominent universities and probably voted Democrat. I am not an expert in anything, but when I read or see someone talking/writing about something I care about, I look up their background see what critics have said about them, and try to make up my mind. The main thing I fear about Trump's most fervent supporters is that they shut out evidence to the contrary of what they hope.
There are no uninteresting things, only uninterested people. G.K. Chesterton

Yes because republicans are fine with people being rich if they so much as pretend to listen. You dont the JFK was rich? Yet every poor catholic workingclass man in America voted for him twice and had their dead grandfather vote too. They dont want you to be like them. They understand theyre not politicians. Thats why they join unions and even elect leaders for the workers. They just want someone to listen, to act like them, talk like them, to make them feel like theyre heard. Trumps a populist, he listened.

Tho I agree with almost all of it. As a native the Washington post poll about natives and redskin was only half true. Indian country . Com did a poll and over 70% of natives hate the term redskin . Also I'm not to upset about the native Halloween coustumes . But some put our woman down showing to much skin and saying sexy Indian girl . Which 1/3 native women are sexually assaulted and it's due to stuff like this. The male ones I don't mind unless they say savage .

                          Dannysich,
I think that any team that is going to use a person or group of people as their mascot should have to get permission from that group to use it. Like what Florida State University does. It is my understanding that the Seminole tribe not only wants them to use their name but has to approve everything they do and even provides the uniforms and other things. However, many liberals who do not know of this arrangement at FSU freak out and call FSU racist and demand a name change. Which goes back to this point by Bill tonight. Liberals just start saying something is offensive and don't even know that facts behind it.
Was the poll done on Indian Country a scientific poll? I ask because usually newspapers have scientific polls that are supposed to be accurate and things online are usually non-scientific (ballot box stuffing) and not accurate.
P.S. I'm 25% Irish and I think I should be offended by Notre Dame's use of "Fighting Irish." What are they trying to say, we are all drunks who get into fights? And a bunch of leprechauns?

Well, the idea that it's just IMPOSSIBLE for the Democrats to win with the way the Democratic party now exists certainly fits the right wing fantasy that they won a GIANT MANDATE, and the election was a HISTORIC LANDSLIDE.
But it doesn't really fit the facts that almost 3 million more people voted for Hillary than Trump, and that in most of the swing states won by Trump, he won by just a slim margin, in an election where a good many people on the left refused to vote for Hillary because they specifically don't like her. Or because they were outraged by the DNC's treatment of Bernie.

The problem is this is your STEREOTYPE of "liberals" and I haven't seen ANY of these type of liberals on THIS board in a long time.
The extremism on the left is a problem, but a "card-carrying Democrat" should also be concerned with extremism on the right, especially since it's threatening to take over the country right now! I'm still a registered REPUBLICAN and I only voted for Hilary as a last-ditch effort to stop Trump. I would have vastly preferred Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney or any number of other people (including the socialist Sanders) to EITHER of these two. But it has nothing to do with "political correctness". Hilary was the lesser of two evils, but we now have the worst possible person in the White House and I'm STILL hoping for the best. Funny though, all the self-proclaimed "liberals" are still going on about what a bad president Obama was and what a terrible candidate Hilary was. Yeah, like that's the real problem NOW.
If Trump runs this country into the ground (and he's off to a good start) are you going to continue to insist that the biggest problem facing America is a bunch of "PC liberals" and "social justice warriors"? How long is the bubble-headed charade going to last?

He's been a vocal critic of political correctness since basically forever. I don't see how he of all people is supposed to have contributed to this.
The OP referred to the tactic of labeling people who don't agree with you racist, sexist, etc. And that is something I've seen Maher do quite a few times. So I'm glad (if he indeed is now criticizing this) he now realizes this is not a smart tactic.

A link would help. Only four clips to choose from.
