Its Wright's script and he's a credited producer. He spent 5 or so years on it. They just did some re writes here and there and he didn't direct it
Except it's not Wright's script. The script has been credited to Wright, Cornish, McKay and Rudd. While it may be his story a fair chunk of the dialogue and other parts will have changed and to ignore McKay and Rudd is to ignore their efforts and where a lot of the credit should lie.
Some people who have seen the movie also credit his work on it and say its all down to him.
None of those people know just how much the film is down to Wright so I find it funny that anyone can declare that. I also find it saddening that you and those people are ignoring the work of the ACTUAL director Peyton Reed. Reed will have ultimately added his own touch to Ant-man and if all of the different parts work well together that will be down to him.
Wright should not be kicked to the curb as you say. I m looking forward to this movie and it would of been even better if he was still directing.
Firstly, the OP and you are wrong about Wright being 'kicked to the curb', he chose to leave. Secondly, I find it annoying how you assume the film would have been automatically better with Wright. You can't determine how good his version would have been and Reed's may very well be better. It's been stated that, among other things, in the current version Lilly and Pena's roles as Hope and Luis (a standout according to the early reactions) respectively were beefed up, and Cross as a villain (apparently pretty good) may have been tweaked (eg. from the 'Nanowarrior' to Yellowjacket). Added to that are all the extra MCU connections that will have been added to make Ant-man a more Marvel film, such as Peggy Carter and Howard Stark.
I'm sure Wright could have made a good Ant-man film on his own (without Marvel) but that wouldn't have been an MCU film. I also suspect that the film Wright was shaping up to make before he left (where both Marvel and him had to compromise their visions) wouldn't have been as good as what we'll get. It sounds like Peyton Reed's made a very solid MCU film so let's just be happy with that. Wright will have left his mark but so will Reed and others.

A jailed thief who's also a father and gets passed a superhero mantle by an older superhero that allows him to shrink and communicate with ants hasn't been done before.

By your standards then, every movie that's not a sequel or prequel is original.
Avatar was original in your eyes even though that story's plot has been around before even Pocahontas.

I literally just came from a site that calls Ant-Man better than The Thomas Crown Affair.
Both of them when you think about it.

Good movie, could have been great if they'd kept Wright on.

Wright is as overrated as it gets. All he ever brought to the table was ego and trouble. He's still costing them. Some of those few bad reviews were from Wright fans.

Bleeding Edge Armor confirmed for Civil War!
Here is a description of the Bleeding Edge Armor from the Iron Man wiki
This armor made Iron Man the most powerful hero in the world. It can go toe to toe with Thor and savagely beat an amped Red Hulk. Its power source has been described as a man made star. This entire armor is kept inside Tonys body until mentally commanded, at which point it manifests itself as the Iron Man Armor. The armor is made up of Nano-Machines that can now be commanded to turn into any type of structure upon Starks skin. For example, the Nano-machines can turn into clothes, other armors, or even different beings completely, by having the Nano-machines change their properties into whatever Stark wants them to be. It can also dissociate to transform into the Iron Man armor whenever Stark wishes. The armor and Starks own transhuman body are powered by the high-yield R.T. node mounted in his chest. The high output of the node has greatly augmented Starks intelligence and provided him with superhuman-level multitasking and learning capabilities. The previous armor , Extremis armor , was enough to defeat The Sentry , who was at the time the most powerful superhero in the world, and the Bleeding Edge armor was much more powerful than the Extremis armor so that implies that Tony can easily defeat the sentry while in the Bleeding edge armor which makes him far more superior than any of his enemies. The known weaponry includes repulsors, uni-beam, pulse bolts, tasers, and an energy blade. Defenses include deflector shields. Other type of weapons and upgrades seems to be created by Starks imagination, such as a boxing glove, large guns extending from his arms, or cannons. The suits repulsors, which are located around the knuckles, chest, back and legs of the armor, as well as in the traditional palms, now function also as cameras, or eyeballs, which afford Stark a 360-degree panoramic view around himself.

Having now seen it, I agree that it is the best origin film since
                        Iron Man
                        .

Marvel Studios definitely strikes a balance between the ingenuity of Wrights original concept for this movie and its rather cool ability to be part of a phase of superhero films with bigger objectives.

That's 19/20 if you add it up.
What a batting average that would be.
