You overintellectualize. If one relaxes into this movie, it does reach those of us who may have children, who work with teens, and/or are human. Stop the overthink and open your heart: the story could happen to your friend, family, and/or a loved one. It's brutal & suspenseful & Neeson is believable as the ex-CIA very present, very focused efficient Dad.
This isn't a masterpiece of artistry, nor does it pretend to be. You're watching the wrong movie if that's what you expect. It is, however, a well-paced, suspenseful thriller with acceptable performances, script, and authentic-seeming fight sequences, Paris street scenes, and a contemporary theme. It entertains & that's good enough for me. -

Completely agree. It's like Commando, except it doesn't have Arnie or that many cheesy moments, which is what makes it sorta watchable.
The action scenes were pretty good, but man it lacks everything else. Still a very crappy movie.
The pop star ending thing nearly made me slit my wrists. -

Judging by the rating people, like me, simply found this movie incredibly fun and brutal. I loved how focused and unreal the lead character was in his efficiency and brutally. Its what most people imagine being like when a loved one is hurt or wronged. Admit it, we all have had these Rambo fantasies at least once in our lives and this movie delivered on that in a more real world setting. A high rating doesn't have to mean a Oscar winner.

I've said this countless times before, but it's always needed: there are few things that are dumber than acting as if you were smarter than others just because you have different taste in movies. Your comment makes you look much more stupid than the people you are criticising.

Lol no no, no no no. Fair enough if we were talking about a top 250-esque film here.
But Taken is categorically super derivative, unrealistic, melodramatic, borderline racist, predictable schmultz, and that doesn't even touch the subjective things like direction - these be facts.
And you know EXACTLY what it feels to dislike a movie 'for idiots' so don't go pretending Battleship, Transformers 3 and Movie 43 are great films. you jst haven't yet realised this movie is one of those types. just listen to the dialogue !
