7.9 rating, really?

Completely agree. It's like Commando, except it doesn't have Arnie or that many cheesy moments, which is what makes it sorta watchable.
The action scenes were pretty good, but man it lacks everything else. Still a very crappy movie.
The pop star ending thing nearly made me slit my wrists. -

Judging by the rating people, like me, simply found this movie incredibly fun and brutal. I loved how focused and unreal the lead character was in his efficiency and brutally. Its what most people imagine being like when a loved one is hurt or wronged. Admit it, we all have had these Rambo fantasies at least once in our lives and this movie delivered on that in a more real world setting. A high rating doesn't have to mean a Oscar winner.

I've said this countless times before, but it's always needed: there are few things that are dumber than acting as if you were smarter than others just because you have different taste in movies. Your comment makes you look much more stupid than the people you are criticising.

Lol no no, no no no. Fair enough if we were talking about a top 250-esque film here.
But Taken is categorically super derivative, unrealistic, melodramatic, borderline racist, predictable schmultz, and that doesn't even touch the subjective things like direction - these be facts.
And you know EXACTLY what it feels to dislike a movie 'for idiots' so don't go pretending Battleship, Transformers 3 and Movie 43 are great films. you jst haven't yet realised this movie is one of those types. just listen to the dialogue ! -

He only looks stupid to you because you disagree with him. In reality, people who enjoy this movie are generally very simple-minded. Very easy to satisfy. The sort of people who go and watch every goddamn Marvel movie they put out. The sort of people who feel intellectual for the first time after they have been watching a Christopher Nolan film. The sort of people who listen to Drake. I could go on and on.

Have you seen the movies here with ratings above 8 and 9? compared to most of them this is a masterpiece. This movie doesn't want to outsmart you or test your intelligence. It's a good old revenge action thriller that doesn't drag and gets audience at any level involved due to the subject it handles. If it was a ransom movie, it would be a disaster, probably!

I agree, I didn't really even find this film watchable to be honest. It was beep crap! Terrible writing, just ridiculous. Some Imdb ratings make me keel over with laughter, this would be one of them.

You must be kidding? I didn't know whether to laugh or just throw up during the set up. This film is cheesy as hell in my view. Barely a single scene in the film seemed even remotely believable to me, more like laughable. Not all people look for the same things in films though. If you liked it, great, good for you. Neither view is right or wrong, just a difference in view. Some cheesy films work for me too, for some reason or another. We all find different ways to relate to different things. If we were all the same and all loved and hated the same exact things, it would likely make for a very boring world.
