Is G.R.R. Martin Preparing us for a Very Unhappy Ending?

For years now, they've been describing the ending as "bittersweet", which IMHO rules out a total victory by the WWs.
My guess is that the series will end with tragic deaths, broken hearts, horrific self-sacrifice and betrayals, political marriages that bring peace but no potential for happiness, either a reluctant monarch or no monarch at all, Sam and Gilly symbolizing hope by officially becoming a family, and an absolute certainty that the great families of Westeros are going to start a new civil war any day now.

With the bittersweet ending, they've already had a helluva lot of bitter, so the ending will be sweet. Jon and Dany will get married, have a bunch of beautiful Targ-looking babies, and will rule the Seven Kingdoms in peace.

thats the lunatics running the asylum ending !!!
Dany dies; Jon dies, Lannisters are wiped out, Arryns wiped, Baratheon wiped, Tyrells wiped,
Bran and Meera, but Lyanna Stark is Elizabeth I

Characters you like a lot will die. And some you were hoping would somehow reunite, let's say Sansa and Arya, will never find each other.
You know important characters have died every season. I expect about the same. Bitter sweet is very different than very unhappy. Suppose Dany dies in child birth, or Sansa, would that be sad enough for you -

I'm fine with the two I like.

D&D have already said there will be a bittersweet ending. I have a feeling it's more bitter than sweet, TBH. I'll start preparing if I were you. I have a feeling that characters with magic will probably disappear in the end, and they include: Daenerys, Jon, Arya, and Bran. I have a feeling it will be Sansa and Tyrion who survive the end.

LOL Its a fantasy world using some history elements as background, backdrop..its not gonna be a facsimile leading to Elizabeth I.
Maybe all the dragons will die, or maybe they fly away to Ashai.
GRRM does not seem to have a great love for the Maesters either.
Magic is so great that Bran can just timetravel, wag into animals, means that magic will be a secret knowledge
And Queen Dany will ride off into the Folklore..

He also loves irony, man.
If it's true that the entire GoT lore is based on medieval history/ War of Roses, and magic represents the superstitions and the lack of scientific advancement during that era, then GRRM will surely kill magic at the end of his story to create a parallel world. How else could his world advance with all this magic?
