Why is there less legal argumentation on the UK show?

I've only seen a few episodes of Law & Order: UK, but one difference I've noticed is that there's very little detailed legal argument (e.g. citing specific precedents and cases), whereas this appears in almost every episode of the original US series.
Is this because of some genuine difference in legal practice between the UK and US, or is it just because the UK writers don't have the budget to hire legal experts to spice up the screenplay?
