His performance made the movie for meit was good over allI'd rate it a 7/10but since John was so good in it, I had to bump it up a point.

I think that another incredibly strong aspect of his performance is that it captures the way that people are capable of doing horrible things while still thinking of themselves as good people. To his mind, Howard probably is just a
      protector
and someone who wants to be a good dad/caretaker.
He probably doesn't think it was his fault/wrong that he killed Brittany, or that he killed Emmett. I think it's a great performance because Howard is so convinced that he is being reasonable that he even manages to convince Michelle (and the audience) at times.
Sometimes the scariest bad guys are the ones who think they're the good guys.

He is a good actor, and I also think that his height, deep voice and girth give more terror when he plays menacing roles. He's always enjoyable to watch.

watch him in Falling w/ Denzel Washington. I think that's the name of it.

For sure. Remember him even in Rosanne. He was mostly a lovable dad but when he got serious it was almost scary.

Exactly right, when he got mad in Roseanne he was so convincing I would always be worried he was going to haul off and beat the hell out of her or whoever he was mad at, had the same vibe as Tony Soprano, whenever someone mouthed off to either of them you'd be thinking "oh man you're about to get it now"

John Goodman is a national treasure, as far as I'm concerned. Every time I watch a movie with him in it, he's the best thing about that movie.

John Goodman was perfectly cast as Howard.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
